Description Just my vision of the character from Victor Hugo's "hunchback of Notre Dame". This is not supposed to be the Esmeralda of the Disney movie, though I certainly was influenced.

The Disney movie was actually the movie that triggered everything for me, artistically speaking. I owe a lot to the artbook, which was my main "teacher" and remains my biggest influence.

Anyway, I have other drawings in store, but I am back for only two days, then I won't have internet again for two or three weeks (still working in the mountains on my comic book).

Thanks a whole lot to all you people who watch, comment and fave my stuff!

Done with pencil, colored in photoshop CS3 and using textures (don't remember where that one came from, though, sorry!!)

Beautiful work! The whole piece is so detailed and pretty. I like how you even included her little shoe-pouch

I really like your depiction. Her gypsy clothes are very pretty, and look nicer than those of the film. Well done.

Where's her little goat? No spelling lessons ahead (especially for 'Phoebus'). To sum it up:

I swear, I'm not being a troll or anything, because I like the picture, but doesn't the book describe Esmeralda as always being barefoot?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kyla79 In reply to RoseBobaTea [2011-07-22 10:52:59 +0000 UTC]

No actually she is supposed to wear little ballerina like shows. They are described when she is dancing for the first time. In the movies though she is often bare-footed, I agree.

I could have sworn that the book said it too.....oh well, my bad, I guess.

The famous musical of Plamondon and Cocciante was a better version of the tale, I say... Epic dark romantism.

Nice art, however!

Lovely, absolutely gorgeous.

However, Esmeralda needs to be a bit more careful, her sash is about to catch on fire.

Nice! It's good to see someone making fanart for the book rather than the movies. Don't misunderstand me though. Disney did a fantastic job on converting the story and making it their own, but nothing beats the book. Not in my opinion. Anyway, fabulous work. :]

I so wanna read the book because I know about the really grim ending. Strange I know but Disney kinda sugar coated the cutesy ending.

GAAAAH YOU WIN THE INTERNET I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS MOVIEEEEE
I have French HoND videos on my Youtube account, just search for "Bells of Notre Dame French" and click the one with the most views. Heck yes.
I have to get that book, you're the second person I know whose artwork was inspired by it.
I like this, it really looks like more traditional Romani clothing. Incidentally, an incredible movie with Romani actors is "Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht"

I'm currently obsessed with the Disney movie, but I must say that I like your Esmeralda design far better than the one used in the film. It's exactly how I pictured her when I first read the book! Lovely work!

I find it kinda funny that her scarf is so close to candlefire, she'd better be careful
