Let's-a Go!! It's the 35th Annivesary of the original Japanese release of Super Mario Bros!

To celebrate, here's a little model of Mario looking decidedly old school. He's meant to be a blend of his various in-game sprites and promotional artwork from the olden days, particulary Mario 1 and Mario 2, Super Mario World...with just a dash of Super Mario 64 influence thrown in for good measure! He's also one of the most diminutive models I've ever made, standing just over 3 1/2 inches tall.

Based on my vague childhood memories, Super Mario Bros. on the NES was among the the first video games I ever played. But we didn't have video game consoles of our own growing up, so playing Mario games was largely a special treat reserved for when we were on vacation, where my brother and I would play Super Mario All-Stars on LodgeNet at hotels that had it. Plus one vacation where our hotel had a Vs. Super Mario Bros. arcade cabinet in it, which we wasted countless quarters playing!

This little model was meant to encaspulate those fond vacation memories, and I'm very pleased with how he turned out. Mario's ready to scurry off on another 35 years of adventures!
