What you see here is based on a "what-if" scenario for "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea" that I thought of. In this scenario, Melody, after taking the trident in her misguided belief that it belongs to Morgana, gets caught and upon meeting King Triton, both are surprised to see each other, but Melody is shocked to see him acknowledge her as his granddaughter, before seeing Ariel in her mermaid form. The combination of these revelations, along with her realization that Morgana lied to her, is too much for Melody to take in, and she's overwhelmed with emotion. Fortunately, Ariel, having agreed that it was a mistake to not tell her daughter about her mermaid origins, forgives her for running away and apologizes herself for not telling her sooner. Promising to deal with Morgana to assure that she'll never harm Melody again, Ariel comforts Melody over the whole ordeal.
