Description As I lay here
upon the sand and shore,
the ocean breeze
surrounds me
and fills me
with its salty scent;
the scent of longing,
the scent of needing.
A wave washes
o'er the sand beneath me,
and water flows
through my hair
and all around me.
I feel its presence,
and I smile
for I know
it feels me too.
Then, the ocean pulls away,
and I am left
with only wet sand
beneath me
and the lingering scent
of ocean air;
the scent of yearning,
the scent of wanting.
I wait in silence.
I can hear the sound
of distant waves,
but none of them
come to me
as I wait upon the sand.
I look up at the sky
to see that today
it is clear and blue,
a sign of calm
and of good fortune.
Soon, a new wave
washes upon the shore
and once more I smile
as I feel its presence
beneath me on the sand,
and its scent much stronger
now that it is near me
once again;
the scent of desire,
the scent of craving.
This time, however,
the water feels like ice
as it rushes through my hair
and it does not stay
for very long.
Very soon,
it disappears
with a lingering,
unsaid promise
never to return.
As the sky becomes dark,
I sit up and look out
at the receding water
and I try to convince it
to come back to me,
but it is stubborn
and refuses
so I am left
alone in the wet sand
with the lingering scent
of ocean air;
the scent of longing,
the scent of needing.

Daaaang, girl. First, I want to point out that you are indeed a spectacular writer. And second, if this is inspiring one of your paintings, then you are also an amazing artist. Multiple skills, Maddi. Serious skills.
