Description This is a photo of some of my trade collection. I'm mostly a fan of the Big Two comics-wise (DC and Marvel), but I do own a couple of Bongo and Archie trades (The Simpsons comics are funny, and I love Archie's Mega Man title). I also mostly get trades that collect stuff from the 1970s and 1980s, but I have some 1960s and 1990s stuff collected.

This shelf contains mostly DC trades. I've learned a lot about how to write thanks to reading these trades.

I have about four bookshelves crammed with Marvel and DC book. I mostly own books from the 80's, late 90's to early 2000's before Geoff Johns RUINED Avengers for me, and a few scattered from other times.

I love Geoff Johns, but I curse the day he created Avengers: Disassembled. It was the beginning of when I started to shun Marvel entirely.

I'm a big fan of the Bronze Age era of Comics myself (1970s through the 1980s).

Actually, it was Brian Bendis who wrote Avengers: Disassembled, not Geoff Johns. I think Johns's run was just a placeholder until Bendis was ready to go ahead with Disassembled. It was the point where Bendis was becoming THE Marvel writer. Still didn't change the fact that Disassembled was not a great story.

I have a few 70's Marvel comics. Love me that Iron Fist.

Oh good, Geoff Johns record is clean again!

I have a LOT of Bronze Age stuff in trade form. Great stuff. And let me tell you, the 1980s New Defenders series was CRIMINALLY underrated. The one with Beast, Angel, Iceman, Valkyrie, Moondragon, and Gargoyle.

Yeah, I think that Johns's run was really a placeholder until they could get Bendis's run ready to go.

That explains a bit. I read some of Johns' stuff and it did have a "Filler not a real plot" vibe to it. Which was a bad move on Marvel's part as he is one of the best writers in the business. And this was beforeΒ he made all those AMAZING stories at DC.

Johns himself admitted that he didn't do a lot of research on the Avengers' history for his run. I kind of felt he was more comfortable at DC, anyway.

That is apparent. Marvel was starting to lose its awesome anyway and now is barely worthΒ looking at.

Well, to be fair, there's a lot of great stuff coming from Marvel these days. There's a new Ms. Marvel, and she's awesome. Squirrel Girl is getting her own book, and it looks like it will be a fun book. Hawkeye had his own title, and I heard that was good. I enjoyed Mighty Avengers.

Well good that Squirrel Girl is getting her own comic.

Yup! It was a nice surprise, and it looks to be a very fun comic! I am eagerly awaiting the first issue.

That's not all of it, pal. I got a LOT more. That's just one shelf in my bookshelf. I have so many I have to get ANOTHER bookshelf. I literally have to stack them next to my bookshelf because there's no more room in my bookshelf.

Mostly it covers old-school superheroes, from Superman to the Avengers to Spider-Man to even the New Warriors.

Hitman. A great series, and the only thing by Garth Ennis I ever wanted to read.

May I suggest reading his Punisher Max series if you haven't.Β  Just some damn good storytelling right there.Β  Particularly Born, Tyger and The Cell.

I sometimes think not enough of the 1990's is available in trade collections, i really wish Peter Davids Aquaman was available for example.

Yeah. It's really easy to write off the 1990s, comic wise. I mean, yeah. Foil covers, crazy-convoluted storylines, and LOTS and LOTS of X-Books. LOTS.

But there were some hidden gems in that era. Peter David's Aquaman run is one. So was Garth Ennis's Hitman, which has been collected (The only thing the man's ever written that I remotely ever wanted to read). Marvel also had its fair share of gems, with New Warriors and Guardians of the Galaxy, for example.
