The title seems kind of ironic, given that Kaname's planning to rip his heart out. But still, this is such a heartbreakingly beautiful moment. Kudos to Hino san for putting down Kaname's thoughts in such a poetic manner. Gosh, I'm tearing up again...This chapter gave me a lot to think about. Zero and his realization... he finally seems to be taking charge. But regarding his true feelings, does he mean he's giving up on Yuuki? From what I understood, his feelings were higher than the selfish notion of possessing her all for himself; it's her happiness which matters most to him and he thinks that it lies in being with Kaname, not him. Guess that is his 'proof of knighthood', to protect her when needed but not to covet her for himself.
His appeal to Kaname and the two of them next to each other during the stand off... I was really thrilled! They both looked so cool and badass: the two knights united against a common enemy. But then that crack appeared in the Bloody Rose (why though? kinda mysterious) and Kaname is reminded of his own personal duty. And on the last page if that's blood on his face, it would mean he's torn his heart out. And while he did that, he was only thinking of Yuuki.
Also I was struck by Kaien's absense in this chapter. Why was he missing from the action, when he's the Chairman of the Academy as well as the Hunters Association? He'd previously joined the fight when Rido and the council had attacked the Academy, so he should have been in the thick of things now as well.
I read somewhere that while the academy's under attack, the first thing Yuuki does is change clothes (facepalm). LOL, well pointed out. But I think her act of changing into her old uniform of the day class signifies that in spite of everything that has happened ever since she bacame a pureblood, Yuuki still identifies herself as the guardian of the academy, protecting humans and the good vampires alike.
So what does this chapter mean for the shippers? If Kaname has ripped his heart out, it's the end of the road for Yume fans. But a small stubborn part of me still sees some hope for Yume left. Then, if Zero's sacrifice is what I think it is, the Zeki fans have nothing much to be happy about either.
However, I quote what a friend of mine said: Yuuki should just throw her weak heart into the furnace and let Zero and Kaname be happy together.

I'm a little biased since I'm a huge Zeki fan and the fact that I don't like Kaname all that much doesn't really help matters, but I agree that this was a rather touching moment on Kaname's part. I actually started to feel some degree of sympathy for a man, who I admit, I never liked. I believe he truly intends to sacrifice himself to protect the humans. If he goes through with it, I will think of him rather highly. It's very selfless to sacrifice your own life to save the masses and I find that to be quite admirable. From what I've seen in the last few chapters, death seems to be the only reprieve left for him. Yuuki helped him keep going, but it isn't enough to free him from his tormented past. Now is the time to finally allow his soul to rest.
Where Zero is concerned, I don't think he's given up on Yuuki at all. He's decided to let her decide what she wants instead of forcing her to stay with him. He's come to terms with his feelings about everything and he just wants her to be happy. He would most likely accept Yuuki's decision, no matter what she decides. But, I don't think that he would simply hand Yuuki over to Kaname. I also believe that, though he hates vampires, he could never hate Yuuki. The only reason he doesn't try to kill Kaname himself, is because of Yuuki. He knows it would make her sad and he doesn't want that.
To be honest, I don't think Yuuki would be happy if she stayed with Kaname. Like I said, I may be biased on my opinion on this matter, but this is what I believe. Yuuki loves Kaname. There is no doubting that fact. I just don't think she loves him the most. I decided this back when she said that Kaname's blood was not enough to sate her thirst. Yet her thirst was completely sated when she drank Zero's blood. I may be reading to much into it, but that was the point where I decided that Kaname and Yuuki were never fated to be together. Plus, even Kaname himself said that she wasn't truly happy when she was with him. If she doesn't end up with Zero, I don't think she'll end up with anyone.
Before people start chasing me with pitchforks, I like how you colored this. I especially like the colored detail of the furnace.

The correct pronunciation is YΕ«ki, where the bar on the 'u' is to emphasise that it's a long vowel and must therefore sound as 'you' and not 'yu'. Hence for the sake of phonetic accuracy, Yuuki over Yuki.

He intends to... lets see if someone is able to intervene and prevent him from doing so. I fervently hope he doesn't kill himself to become the next parent. Some people feel that Isaya should throw his heart into the furnace since he wants to die anyway.

D: And Matsuri Hino knows the two favorite characters in the series are Kaname and Zero......please don't kill off Kaname! But Kaname is really focused on becoming the next parent and once he's torn his heart out, it's the point of no return for him (and yume shippers, unless Yuuki has his baby or something).
I agree about the twist thing, Hino san is good with them and I hope she'll spin a miracle this time and not give us a tragic ending (which means none of the characters dies).

Yea sadly I know that fact and it looks like the story is going more towards the Zeki group. But I still have a little hope left that Matsuri Hino does have something up her sleeve that none of us would suspect in the final chapter xD
Kaname is just really pissing me off with his decision about the heart and becoming the new parent........
I wouldn't mind it if Yuki were the one to die. Or she would be the one to rescue Kaname in the end sacrificing her life for him. That would be a twist right there. I've also realized that Zero just all of a sudden stopped having Level E symptoms? I mean yes he's gotten stronger but it seems that aspect of the story has gotten lost.
Overall I don't know if I'm ready for Vampire Knight to end yet..........
P.S- I feel like Vampire Knight has lost it's "Vampire Knight" vibe, I really think it should've ended at volume 10. I mean I still love the series to death but I think volumes 1-10 were when it was at its best

Since you brought up the final chapter: it feels really weird that the next one is going to be the last chapter... seems like I've known these characters since forever. Yeah, I'm not ready for it to end either. But better to finish it off than letting the story drag and become uninteresting.
Well, IMO the series has been pretty well paced and I can see the appeal if the story had ended when Yuuki left to live with Kaname after the Rido arc. But the Sara arc really developed the characters, they became more mature and complex. I mean, the change in Yuuki is unbelievable. Though her vacillating between Kaname and Zero annoyed me, she became stronger in other respects, realized her power and used it well. The dynamics of the characters relationship became more complex as well. Guess I like the deep, dark forest theme more.

Ironic thing is I'll be cosplaying Vampire Knight with my group of friends at a convention the day the last chapter comes out O.o It's gonna be like a celebrate that VK is over by cosplaying VK day xDD
I agree I'm ready for it to end and not get dragged out anymore, but yet I'm sad it's coming to an end.
Oh don't get me wrong I've still liked Vampire Knight through it's entirety and although the story got a little bit more confusing it delved a little bit more into the Vampire world and took a large twist. Omg I am in love with Kaien Cross 
Now when it finally ends I'll just continue to keep collecting the manga so then I'll have the full story in my hands
Vampire Knight is an amazing story and I will always have a love for it.
I'm scared for the ending tho and the suspense is getting to me xD

I really hope Kaname doesn't kill himself. I want VK to end with Yuki and Kaname happily together...

Yes, that is indeed sad. I just feel that Yuuki's mission to turn Kaname into a human and the attempts thereof seemed so feeble (IMO). She didn't really accomplish anything, except losing her virginity. And erasing Zero's memories which was totally irrelevant, not to mention ineptly done. I hope she's more effectual in trying to save Kaname now, if he's already not ripped his heart out.
While I'm (or try to be) zeki-yume neutral, I think from a critical standpoint that Yuuki's true happiness is in being with Kaname so I hope they both make it through.

LOL, if I was in Hino san's place, I wouldn't let anyone of the trio die... or Aidou or Takuma or Kaien for that matter. (That bit with Aidou and Yuuki was kinda funny, so long since we've had a light moment in VK... though I wonder if Aidou didn't want Yuuki to see something specific rather than just a general fear of invasion of privacy).
If Kaname dies then yes, I think Yuuki will go to Zero. Not immediately maybe, but it would happen eventually and the zeki fans will be ecstatic. I can guess what you're thinking but Yuuki's been fickle that way. She always running from one to the other and in the end, it has to be either Kaname or Zero.
Hmm? But I feel Zero's come to terms with the fact that it's okay if he's not with Yuuki as a lover and he won't object to Yuuki's being with Kaname. I may be wrong but I think that even if Zero still possesses the vendetta against purebloods, he won't go after Yuuki and Kaname.

I'm in two minds about Zero. Sometimes I dislike him for being all 'moody and broody' but then, I can't help but sympathise with his circumstances and suffering.

No I know he hasn't but I wish he had. If Ichiru hadn't been devoured by Zero then maybe she could've been with him. He may not end up with Yuki though if he doesn't change her back into a human. She may end up with Kaname if she can stop him from ripping his heart out. I do hope she does.
