why is Sekhmet so small?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lady-cybercat In reply to starfoxremix [2010-07-02 17:06:03 +0000 UTC]

Because if she was full sized she couldn't be in his hand.

....But....they are both gods....what is the significance in the size difference?

You are reading too much into it. Not everything is going to have a deep theological or representative meaning. I just wanted to draw Anubis and Sekhemet. My only real 'deep' though was the idea of Death and War being represented.

Again, Artistic License Not ignorance. Just because I have an opinion that differs from yours doesn't mean I don't understand the topic. I've done plenty of study of art history including egyptian stuff. Yer welcome to your opinion just as I am welcome to mine. Thanks for the comment. For me this is a 'fantasy' piece not a religious work. If you want a 'honest to life' religious piece, feel free to make one yourself that is as accurate to your beliefs as you wish. Be sure to let me know if you do so, I'd like to see how it turns out.

'Nubis isn't the God of Death. That's Osiris, and he's got a woman. :-P

This is the second Anubis/Sekhmet I've seen, and it's starting to freak me out, cause SHE's got a husband too. *cackle* Still, lovely drawing. Though I always thought the Gods and Goddesses were the same size. :-P

Beautiful work!

Yes but A: Artistic Licence. B: Egytian Gods arn't real, C: In egyptian art they often over sized the more 'important' figure in the image. D: The egptian gods often had more than one roll, depending upon the era and got shifted back and forth. Thanks for playing.

Chrishankhah In reply to lady-cybercat [2005-11-04 22:47:13 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely artistic license lets you do what you want with a piece, real or not. Don't undermine Sekhmet's importance, though; She nearly destroyed humanity, and when the Egyptians realised their calendar was screwed up, they devoted the last few days to her in a festival of praising her so she wouldn't come down on them again. She was probably one of the most feared gods in Egyptian mythology.

Maybe it's stupid for a Christian like myself, but I kinda cheer for Sekhmet in and of it all, and it's slightly offensive to see her so small. But it's really no big deal, just an observation. I take liberties with Egyptian mythos, too; I have a story in which I've turned the "gods" into mages as the background setting for an entirely new (yet very old) civilisation. I still think it's very lovely work, and if I haven't favourited it before, I will. You have awesome talent.

This is glorious, I've always been a huge fan of the ancient egyptian traditions and this is just gorgeous.
I don't suppose I could have a go at colouring it could I? No worries if not, its a beautiful picture.

That's really cool!!

I'm sitting here trying to think of what he's saying to her and drawing serious blanks...

The best I can come up with is

"You're not wearing anything under that, are you?"

But then, I think that just because I'm a guy...

Cheers

lady-cybercat In reply to Tigerstorm [2004-05-24 17:52:17 +0000 UTC]

Wouldn't she? What is war but a servant of death? What happens in war? people die, so death and war go hand in hand I would think.
