Heh, thank you very much and I can't recall if you ever told me you liked her nightgown before. XD
Aww.. well I am glad to know that! And that you liked their expressions. n_n
I wish the scanner hadn't made everything look so grainy cause it sorta messes with the lines a bit. D:

these two get cuter and cuter together every time I see them. Why can't all aliens be as sweet as Neelix?

Lol I meant the bed and sheets came off overly human, not Neelix! XD
Blanket folds can be a pain sometimes. I actually referenced my own blankets for this. My cat wasn't too pleased since she is always sleeping on my bed lol.
And no no, the pillows are very light. I kept them lighter in real life as if it was fading into whiteness as the drawing went upwards, but the scanner has issues picking up very light colors and pencil strokes so it came out even lighter then I intended. :c
Yup, marker was used for Heather's skin and a dot for Neelix's eye. I use Prismacolor Markers and pencils but my Premier brand of Prismas have been giving me trouble lately with too much texture and a grainy look, especially the smaller the characters are on the paper, the more it shows so I've been experimenting with my markers and Verithin Prisma pencils to help for a smoother look when scanned in. In real life, that texture doesn't show that much so it is really disappointing to see how badly the scanner butchers my art. :C
But thank you so much for your comment, Murra! n_n

XD It never occured to me that a bed might look alien. And I account for the dumbest things in life. But Neelix still has a human expression, regardless if you were talking about the bed or not. I don't have the faintest idea what an alien bed would look like...Skins from animals we can't simply fathom? Cryo beds? =/ Air matresses...? Maybe something similar to a temprapedic? And the designs on the blankets, what would they be? Planets? Space ships? Alien heroes? But I think the most likely would be shapes, like quilts already have. Shapes I think would be a universal thing if there really were aliens, but solid colour seems probable too. Yes, I think about this stuff ALL the time.
XD Nice. The KFC cat, right? XD Still makes me laugh. Poor little girl. What upset/displeased cats need is a BIG hug and a kiss on the head. XD No catatude on the bed!
Blarg, scanners suck. I think that's part of the reason I transfured my art to digital. What kind of scanner is it? And did you try previewing it before scanning it? Some let you do that and you can change the brightness and contrast before scanning it onto the computer. But of course, that's not all scanners, unfortunantly.
Have you tried smoother paper? Because the tooth of the paper you're useing might also account for the scanning problem. Of course, smoother paper is so much more less forgiving. ;.; I've played with the pensils and they do leave a grainy texture on paper like Watercolour paper, expensive paper and the NICE drawing boards. Wich totally sucks because I LOVE the vibrance of Prismas. Another problem might be maybe you're not pressing down hard enough? I know that there are people who press too hard and there are the people, who I envy, that just can't pressure the paper to bleed.
But I all honesty, I like the 'grainy' look. The faded and lightness of your works is just perfect to my eye. But that's just me. Artists will always beat up on themselves, always pressuring to get better and better. You are your own worst enemy...JUST under the scanner. EVERYONE knows that scanners hate life. I don't think the scanner butchers your art, but I don't know what it looks like IRL, sooooooo I can't say much. XP
Bah, you know I always comment. I have too much to say! XD

I'm trying to make things feel more alien but, I guess as a human, it can be difficult to pull away from our familiar concepts. The good thing about that is at least we can relate to it when it is familiar. If things need to be similar in use such as a table, chair, or simply a spoon, I do want to at least try to redesign it to look different in some way but it can be hard sometimes. XD

D: Sorry for butting in on this conversation.
But I know exactly how you feel. I personally am trying to write (or at least plot out) a story involving aliens, and it's hard to make things different, hard to think of a way they might be different from us. We're used to the way we work, it's hard to imagine a way the things we do might be done differently and still work.

I wanted to do something sweet and romantic involving these two for Valentine's Day... which is kinda predictable but.. ya know.
I'm really glad to know you think it has emotional power. I know I've mentioned it before how strongly I like to portray emotions in my drawings so knowing you feel that way lets me know I succeeded with that! XD
I did draw out both of their bodies before adding the blankets.. which was difficult because I hate having to cover up my line art with blankets after I went through all that trouble.. but it's just how it goes if I wanna make things feel more real instead of just shapeless blobs beneath the blankets, lol.
As for the other part, well, I just wanted to elaborate on Falcon's reply to you just so you can know and understand my take on it.
I don't mind critique but the problem is that your dislikes aren't what I consider critique, but instead more like criticism and nitpicking which is something I honestly don't care for and isn't going to help me in any way because it's a difference in opinion.
If you simply dislike something I chose to do, such as a more flowly style with her hair vs. a more realistic, hyper detailed style (which I made note of in the description that I was intentionally going for a more simple and softer approach), that actually comes off more annoying and rude than anything.
As harsh as it sounds, I don't care if you don't like her hair for whatever reason. The way I drew it, the way I colored it, or simply because it is more flowy and fantasy looking than overly hyper realistic and flat against the pillow. That is simply the style I chose and wanted to do for this drawing. Or even like before with the way I chose to draw Veeno's face or if Muora does or does not have a tail. A comment telling me you dislike that is not something I care for because it is something I do like and chose to do for myself, not for anyone else. I'm not here to please anyone, so if you don't care for something, I ask that you kindly keep it to yourself.

Dude. You are becoming annoying. It seems you cannot simply enjoy a picture without feeling the need to leave at least some kind of criticism about it that you don't like or a fault you notice. Did you see critique requested? Did you see the artist specifically ask for critique or criticism? No? Then maybe you should just stop and enjoy the picture.
I am seeing on every piece you are constantly leaving more and more rude and direct/blunt comments on each submission and enough is enough. Maybe the Artist doesn't want to hear you go on an on about something YOU don't like on EVERY picture. Maybe they don't care you noticed an error that they themselves noticed, and don't appreciate you going on some long detailed analyzation of it. There is a line between just saying a comment about something and going on and on about it or giving a detailed analyzation of it. It's not appreciated. I don't appreciate it. You have been warned.

I think it says more about you than about Lostkavi that you choose to focus on the one (barely) negative aspect of a comment otherwise full of praise.

H-Falcon In reply to charm-stub [2011-02-15 23:13:26 +0000 UTC]
I think you don't know the situation. He has been replying to many pictures and leaving more and more rude and blunt critisim that does nothing to help the artist at all. Saying you don't like such and such doesn't help. It's not constructive. It's just ranting about something he notices or doesn't like. On top of that the artist did not ask for critique. Lost has plenty of other submissions on da he can go ranting and criticizing if he so chooses. As it already seems he does anyways.
So I really think you should mind your own business. You had nothing to say about the art and only came here to say something to me? Are you an idiot? Are you one of his friends coming to say something because he's all hurt about it? If you have nothing to say about the art itself then don't comment here. Seriously. Let lost reply himself. He is quite capable and doesn't need "Hero's" to come to his defense. If you aren't one of his friends then you still have no point to being here anyways because you chose to respond to me in a comment that has nothing to do with you instead of about the art itself. Go away troll. Do not reply. There is no need for you to.
