with all the that we've had in the past few days, and the news that areas east of us are beginning to experience severe flooding ...it just seemed an appropriate time to share these images of the Atchafalaya Basin (the word "Atchafalaya" is pronounced as "ah-CHAF-fah-Lie-ah") ...that I managed to capture on our last trip across Interstate 10 in southern Louisiana...

The Atchafalaya Basin [link] is the largest swamp in America... and is crossed on Interstate 10 by means of a bridge that is 18.2 miles long (29.29 km)

I'm quite proud of this capture ...because it is not a good idea to stop on the bridge (unless in emergency) ...so all captures of the vast swamp must be made from a moving vehicle... and I've tried several times to get an image that I could post... and finally... viola! I got TWO!!

shot at 55 miles per hour (88.5139 km) from the passenger's window on the motorhome, while my sweet hubby Bob =TThealer drove!
