Description
Our magnolia has it's very FIRST blooms, ever!!!

In 2005, our good friends, Lee & Don Jackson, of Buckrun Pottery, gave us a "deciduous" magnolia. Since the magnolias that we are familiar with, are of the evergreen variety, that grow in the south.... we weren't sure, precisely what to expect out of a deciduous one! The plant has appeared healthy... and has seemed to grow well... but nothing special .... then yesterday, I looked out the kitchen window, and saw white poofs!!

On closer inspection, we discovered these first blooms opening!! And after much research this morning, Bob & I have pretty much decided that what we have is a Star Magnolia.... and if so, it is right on time with it's blooms... for the experts say that it blooms the 4th year

I know that this isn't the most exciting capture but, it's exciting for us because we weren't sure that it was ever going to bloom!

Glad to hear it finally showed it's stars for you guys!
Ours have been superior this year with a slow warm up helping the flowers last longer than normal. The bulbs you shared with us have multiplied enough to divide already so thanks for that little happy spot in the garden.
I may have to break down and post some photos (hee) just home from a festival in the Arboretum in Dallas where 450,000 tulips were in flower! Stunning is putting it mildly. So if I can figure out the works here will share some of that glory. Hugs from your favorite Hillbillygoatgirl and all her newest chillens!

If ya' need some help figuring out how to submit your art, just send me a note, or an e-mail... you know where I live!

What a wonderful surprise. I am so jealous that you have flowers blooming already. We still have snow. Dirty half melted ugly snow. Old man winter just does not want to give up this year. Thanks for sharing your first lovely blossom.

Yes, it is!! You're very welcome for the sharing Candace!! We didn't really have that much snow this year... which is unusual but, it was soooooo cold & dreary & nasty... that our skin looked gray, before we worked out in the yard on Saturday. The felt soooooo good!
we've always called the snow & dirt mixture that hangs around "snirt"
btw, thanks for the , too!

Well we have lost of "snirt" and at the moment a Winter Storm Warning in effect; rain turning to snow. Fred is going to drive me to work and I will just stay with a friend if it is to nasty tonight. Send some of that warm sunshine this way.

It is a Star Magnolia and they can grow to be HUGE so hope it's planted with plenty of room. I have three of them and they're about done blooming here.
