I found these pictures and figured I would run a thought I had by you. Take it for what you will, I am just a humble commentator.
I guess I had in mind something like a thin lace pull-over (it probably has a name, but I don't know it) made out of similar material to the embroidery (the cloth along the edges).

That way you could add a little modesty and practicality without giving up the great detail work or tribal/exotic appeal.
