Aw. I did a drawing like this once. Looking back, its utter shite, but Elwing (and really...Elrond's family in general) is probably my fav from the Silmarillion. I have always wanted to try illustrating it.

I can relate - while I can't say anything about your drawing skills, I know that mine aren't worth half a glance, hence the photomanipulations. I have more ideas, and I bet that Elwing will make another appearance sooner or later, she's (after Nerdanel and the rest of the Feanorians) one of my favourite characters, too. And there will be Elrond. Not the movie version, but Elrond nonetheless.
Oh, and if you decide to try your hand at illustrating, please let me know?

Oh aye, I suck greatly. Mostly my scanner sucks more, but what can you do? Maybe if I find a moment to get inspired here (which could require yet another read of the Silmarillion-oh woe is me

Nah, you don't... at least I don't think so. Scanner issues, maybe, but the Elwing drawing is beautiful.
A Silmarillion-read is always a good idea, it makes any stress you're going through seem small compared to the the war against Morgoth. 
Sorry to hear about your drawings, but that's all the more reason to start over again, isn't it? Yay for Tolkien kicks, so... seize it and draw, draw, draw!
You definitely have two thumbs up on your version as Elrond... Hugo Weaving is made of win, but anybody who tells me he looks as kind as summer will get a serious thwapping.
