Whew, it's been some time since I've made a digital painting without lineart. I like the looks of it, though... how soft it is and how everything is connected.I was inspired by a dream I had just before I woke up the other day. The plot didn't really make sense, sadly, but there were some powerful emotions in there and I got inspired to turn them into a painting. That's why I can't really give you an explanation for this one - but I'm sure you can figure out a meaning on your own.
Also, I'm still flashed because I'm having dreams about Undertale. How awesome is that?!

Soft padded shoes trudged through the light mud, then came to a stop and gave way to bony knees. A pair of indecipherable eyes gazed out at the mountain so many miles away as the small skeleton let the raindrops splash against his skull and drip down his clothing. He gave a sigh, bowing his head. Some days he wasn't sure if it was crueler for the kid to erase the world or give him happiness for a while just to rip it away later. Today of all days, the year's anniversary of their freedom from the underground, the former should be true. But it just wasn't. Not when the ever-looming threat of a reset bore down on him like a drill.
After some reflection and the same kind of pain that would normally evoke tears, a pair of even lighter shoes approached from behind, giving way to bare knees seconds later as not one but two pairs of eyes stared out at the deadly mountain. For a while the two stayed like this, not daring to look at each other. The barest of glances in their direction could and did make Sans shiver. What had happened that he couldn't remember? He dreaded the thought.
"I had Asgore destroy the reset button."
It came like a shot in the dark, and Sans's head snapped towards Frisk, all sentiments dispelled. They didn't even flinch, continuing.
"Both normal and true reset, I mean. I figured...that's the only way to ensure everyone would be happy."
Sans stared at Frisk as if they had grown a second head.
"kid...?"
"After everything you've been through..." Frisk paused, settling a quiver in their voice. "I don't want to hurt you any more."
Silence again. In those eight words, everything had been confessed. What they saw. What they knew. What they did. And they truly regretted it.
Before his thoughts were even complete, Frisk scooted across the short distance between them and lay their head on his shoulder. Sans wrapped his arm around them on instinct, despite being slightly uncomfortable with their rash behavior. For another couple of moments he let the thought sink in. There were going to be no more resets. No more painful days pretending to be something he wasn't. No more sleepless nights wondering if this was the last glimpse of the surface.
He could try again.
With that last thought, his smile grew slightly, and he placed his head on top of Frisk's, letting the sheer peace sink in. They really were a good kid.
