I'm afraid I haven't seen the movie this is based on, but nevertheless it is very nice. The shading is really well made and I love the texture you've created: kind of raw instead of how it must have been originally, it being 3D.
What I really like thought is what you did with the limelight. I didn't realise at first. The shading on the the two characters corresponds to the light, but you have also shaded the background, so it's not immediately apparent. It feels like a mistake, but I personally felt incepted by it, so I like it.
That said, I feel like their joints are a bit unnatural and stiff, which is not good if you want to depict a motion. That's also the case for the girls pants. Not very responsive to gravity. Of course, it's based on 3D so I don't know.

Thank you.

The two are not actually meant to be moving. It is supposed to picture a pause in a dance where the two stare each other out.

This is a great drawing. You have managed to both recreate Gru closely to his original look and at the same time adopt the art style of Rachel to fit Gru's. I love their shading and that black/yellow color, but I very much dislike the strong light on the top right of the picture. It is just way to strong and bright and does no good except taking the focus from the beautiful characters to itself.

Thank you. I may be editing this picture in the future to give it a nice new update, so hopefully it will be a better version.

Very nice work with positioning their bodies! I must say, this is the first Despicable Me fanart I've seen on deviantART

I like Rachel's sweater.

One thing I'm not so fond of is the gray border to the "spotlight" on the drawing. The gray triangle things. The spotlight is very warm, and the drawing's gray graphite is also warm--while the gray triangles are a very, very different shade of gray. If they were dark (near black), it wouldn't be much of an issue, but the temperature contrast is distracting, for me anyway.

I like the idea behind the lighting, but not so much the execution in this case. Colder light to make the temperature more even? A darker room so that the unlit corners are even darker? I don't know which would work better, but I think going forward you should experiment with your spotlighting technique more if/when you use it again on a graphite drawing.

This is absolutely adorable! The design itself is very well done. I love the way you drew Rachel. She seems to have some real weight to her. This is complimented by the way you drew her body and Gru's, so that it doesn't seem awkward or unnatural, but is instead balanced and supportive. I also love the amount of detail you managed to fit into this style of drawing, especially on the sweaters. But, perhaps my favorite part isn't of the drawing itself, but your clever use of lighting. I, myself, probably would've never thought to do something like that, but it fits perfectly with the tone of the drawing.

The only thing that I think could use improvement is the overall cleanliness of the drawing. There seems to be flakes of graphite/charcoal sprinkled on your drawing that is a tad distracting. I would suggest going over it digitally and cleaning that up. You can do this very easily by going to www.picnik.com and using the blemish remover in the touch-up section. Overall, this is a truly wonderful piece, and I hope you do more like it in the future. Keep up the great work.

Thank you.

The original piece actually was a simple doodle and it somehow developed into this. (Most of my non-professional work seem to evolve as I'm doing them for some odd reason. Haha.)

This is, I must say, the longest and most constructive comment I've ever had. Much appreciated indeed.

Hah I know how that is. My loyalty and lethality piece was just a little, sketchy line art and then somehow developed into a monster all its own.

Aww, you're very welcome. I never could limit myself to just a few words, so I'm glad you found what I said helpful!

Hahah true enough! I do a little bit of C&P when I reply to people (there's only so many ways you can say thank you, after all), but the comment thing is ridiculous. Well, I haven't been getting much love in the comments area lately, so I haven't noticed it too much.
