Description This was my Christmas gift for my bff<3, I mean, the designs I made for it, because for once in the life I planned things and didn't start with doing the actual thing right away.

These are supposed to be Rogozhin, Nastasya Filipovna and Prince Myshkin from Dostoyevsky's Idiot, one of the best loved books of my friend. I think.
and I was out of my mind satisfied because she recognised them all
I know she could pick some mistakes, because even I see some, for one, Rogozhin looks a bit too pathetic, and Nastasya looks kindof evil... but she wouldn't say. What can I say, she is a nice person. (and also she was mute at the time I gave her this, because of a vocal chord inflammation) (if this is how you name it)

The faces look so full of life! The clothes look a little flat in comparison, but it's great how you bring focus onto such a small part of the drawing.

Really? That's great that you think so I always thought that I wanted to put too much emotion on their faces, but they ended up looking blank instead...
I know! I reeally have to work on drawing textures and bigger surfaces, faces have always been my strong side.. let's rather say, my only side? I don't even draw anything else but faces, if I'm not forced otherwise I kinda hoped I could get away with this here, because they are puppets and all

Drawing clothes, perhaps? I have a friend who loves the look of 18th Century-style dresses (lacy, tight at the waist, covered in fine details), and she's drawn them so often that she's really very good at them now. [link]

Wow, that's a reeally good one you pointed me to! A very difficult dress too.. I don't know if I could ever do anything that precise...
My problem is that I will still be more interested in drawing faces, whatever I do.. and I just have no patience for things that I am not interested in.. unfortunately. Even if some practice would definitely do me good!

Yeah... I keep telling myself to draw more, but I never even start...
How about drawing scarecrows? They have cloth 'skins'

I think the facial expressions are great. The far right character is my favorite!!

Even if they are not doing anything particular with their faces? I really thought they all looked the same, when I was done
Thank you so much <3 That one is Myshkin, he is the "idiot" of the story, because with his Jesus-like goodness, he is somewhat out of context in the world.
I'm glad you like!

Tímea, ön ismét elképesztett mindannyiunkat.
Gyönyörű figurák. Szinte látom őket stop-motionben megelevenedni.

What an amazing Christmas present! The finished product is so incredible!

I have never read the book, but I love the look of your characters! I especially loved the ginger fellow, lovely design of his suit! Your style is so inspiring and beautiful, as always!

Wow...
Thank you so much, your comment just made my day C:

And.. psst... I haven't read it either I just listened to my friend blabbering about it all the time. So much in fact, that I don't even feel like I have to read it anymore.

does it sound like a good book though?

LadyLotte In reply to aberry89 [2010-12-29 16:25:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, good question... I didn't really like Dostoyevsky with his Crime and Punishment, to be honest.., but this actually sounds like something I would read, I especially like the characterisation of these three. A kept woman, who hates to be beautiful and cares about nothing, least about herself, and Rogozhin is everything that is dark and animal like, while Myshkin is light and kindness, and everything that is good. And the question is, can such an incorruptible, Christ-like goodness exist in this society?
Or something like that...
I think this it sounds good, don't you? I wouldn't read it now, because nowadays I am afraid of reading dark and sad stuff.
Excuse me, if I rambled

Hmmm... sounds very interesting, if it goes all dark and sad in the end, or the entire time, I'm not sure I will be up for it. I know very little about his books though, and I have always wondered if I would like them

It is kind of dark from the get-go, I think, it's Russian, after all
And yea,the same here, I'm not really into reading depressive books right now, not really ready for it. But there will come a bright day, when I will read this after all
