Description My latest gown, nicknamed the Caramel Gown The main bodice and overskirt are made of a caramel cotton velvet, the forepart and hat are made of an orange and gold upholstery damask, and it is trimmed with a black and gold/copper pattern trim. Since this photo was taken, I have hand beaded the hat and will be beading the underskirt forepart and the trim will get some crystals. Also, the tabs which you can't see in this photo have been beaded. Still need to make the hanging oversleeves and some kind of fitted undersleeve. I also made the choker, necklace, earrings, and partlet. The hat pin was purchased.

I loved the color of the velvet for the longest time and finally decided to make a gown out of it I have had the orange damask for a few years. Had found that in the clearance section of a Joann's and decided to hang on to it. I thought it was nice to pick an out-of-the-norm color scheme for once

Lovely work! The color is unusual, but it really suits you; and there is the advantage of finding shades that are seen in the art and in extant clothing of that time period. Fantastic work.

Thanks! I like using some colors that other people wouldn't consider, so long as it all works well together Makes it more unique. That caramel colored velvet was a color I have wanted to use in garb for years and finally found some at a low price and couldn't pass it up

Thank whatever gods there be for fabric sales! You did a marvelous job of it, too. Having worked with velvet, and knowing the evils of just making a cloak and a doll dress out of the stuff; I admire your fortitude in making a gown!
