Description

Why yes I used my hands as ref, how'd you guess??

Was watching ‘X-Men’ earlier this week with the family and worked on this during the movie.  There’s a few similarities with X-Men stuff like people seeing powers as bad, but the difference is that superpowered people were originally icons and loved by the public in the AU before it was revealed that the biggest heroes were working to take over the world i.e. they were a bunch of supervillains (or heroes turned villains, your call).  Esther’s powers are a form of energy manipulation and electricity; she can tamper with all sorts of energy from technology and use it on the spot or store it as electricity for later use.  Storing too much makes her unstable so it’s best if she only stashes small amounts of electricity for emergencies, like being chased by government superhuman apprehending task forces…or charging her DS. lol

I think in this day and age, having the ability to manipulate electricity is one of the most useful powers to have! I mean you could use it for everything and not even have to fight crime! No one would ever know you were stealing the neighbour's electricity to power your house...(except maybe when people start questioning your bills and notice you aren't paying for electricity)

Her pose is great, I love the way you played with proportions to add depth and a more dynamic flow to the image - ka-zayup (I wonder if Esther is prone to making her own electrical sound effects to go along with her action pose)

Ohhh, definitely!  I was wishing I had those powers when I was at the beach two weeks ago and kept having to use my portable phone charger--who knew taking photos could drain your battery like that??  Haha!  Just install some fake solar panels and pretend that's why the bills are so low. XD

Thank you!  I really like Phil Bourassa's forced perspective poses and how extreme they are, so I wanted to take a stab at something like that too.

Knowing Esther, she'd do that and sing "Another One Bites the Dust"

Sleyf In reply to LadyPep [2018-07-10 07:58:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah but you'd have to have collected the stored energy yourself to be able to use, so imagine if you forgot...or you could just stand next to other beech goers and...you know...leech some of their battery power.

Lol, sounds reasonable considering the whole 'go green' initiative a lot of countries are beginning to encourage.

Well I think it's a success!

Lol and change the pose at every 'dum - dum - dum' beat (which i might add, she also replicates - because who doesn't sing that song without replicating that?)

LadyPep In reply to Sleyf [2018-07-13 16:30:16 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't have minded where we were at since there was a particular group of people blasting their music really loud... "Oh, darn!  Looks like your battery died even though you charged it right before you came...nothing suspicious about that..."

Lol Exactly!  I have it that she really likes a lot of old rock music, so she'll just pop in her earbuds and beating up baddies while rocking out to AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. Her very own soundtrack for her action sequences!

Sleyf In reply to LadyPep [2018-07-18 07:29:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh THOSE people, sharing their musical taste with the world whether it wants it or not lol - and thus, a small act of super heroism was done when depriving them of electricity - humanity will never know the favour bestowed upon them that day.

Since the mp3 player she has seems to be shared (as I recall) - her playlist has its own unique name like 'ass-whoopin'' or 'baddie beat-downs'

It'd be a real shame if she was stuck in the era of portable CD players and it kept skipping each time she even moved...(or even breathed on it too hard)

It would've been like that one scene in the Star Trek movie where they go to the 80s lol

LOL!  YES!  She'd have several playlists and they'd all be tiered until you get to "total annihilation" where all the heavy rock music lives. XD

Oh my gosh, I remember those days!  I borrowed my dad's once and felt so nervous carrying it around the house because it was heavy and I didn't want to drop it!

Sleyf In reply to LadyPep [2018-07-28 12:01:03 +0000 UTC]

Lol oh my gosh, if ONLY one could do that - in tis day and age instead of clapping in appreciation, the people on the bus would attack (and film it)

She only listens to that one in small doses, as it's far too powerful

The worst thing is that I had an actual stationary cd player (it was my alarm clock/radio) and the stupid thing STILL skipped (they were pretty heavy lol, so much for convenience) - bring back the walkman, I LOVED my walkman (they kind of made you appreciate songs more as you couldn't be bothered to fast forward and hope to play at the end of the song, so instead you just endured)

Anything to get some hits on their Youtube channel!

Its used for City Leveling events or when a supervillain crawls out of the woodworks

I had a CD/Cassette/Radio I used to use all the time as a kid (mostly for the jazz station on the radio...I was a weird kid lol).  My sister and I probably ruined a lot of tapes because we liked to do that trick where you press halfway down on play and it makes the voices slow, or press halfway on the fast forward and turn everyone into chipmunks--our mom walked in on us doing that one day and we got a lecture. lol  I'm sad I never figured out how to make mixtapes!

Sleyf In reply to LadyPep [2018-08-09 11:52:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...
I only made a channel to make a playlist I could listen to lol.

’wait, hold the fight, I need to switch playlists!’ (And while kicking butt she sings along, so all may share in the music, even if it’s all heavy metal guitar solos or screaming)

Lol ewwww, jazz, sorry I’m not a fan at all, it sort of makes me more aggrivated than it should. You know, I never tried that myself, probably because if I ever did my mum would yell for ruining the casette player, but I had two elder sisters, one of which used to make mixed tapes all the time and even her own ‘radio station’ tapes lol (the eldest one was actually far too frightening to even speak to at that stage in my life because she was a teenager and apparently angry at everything, even though she got to do whatever she wanted all the time).

I started out with a channel to post Lego stop-motion videos (back during my nerdy homeschool days), and the only stuff on there now are my school project movies.  I honestly use it for music 99% of the time too, and since I discovered adblock, I don't get those annoying commercials between every other song!

Oooh, if she got into a fight at a stadium, she could just access the sound system and broadcast her tunes like a halftime show! lol

Haha!  Oh, no I totally understand!  I can't listen to it now...for reasons.  It got me interested in instrumental stuff, so I'm forever grateful for that since now almost all I listen to are soundtracks

Lol!  Greatest Hits of the stations!  Oh, the Wonder Years--my sister and I are two years apart so we got to experience the joy of our teens together (and the fights)

okay yeah, you referenced your hands... but I know it's still HARD! (I hate hands. ) Fingernails can be the toughest to draw and you 'nailed' it! The expression and fluidity to this piece is amazing! The simplicity of her cast shadow kinda helps drive home the electric feel in a way.

And yes, I'd call being chased by government superhuman apprehending task forces an emergency.

Lol!  I still have a love-hate relationship with drawing hands, but the more I force myself to draw them, the easier it gets.

Thank you so much!  I used to not give my characters fingernails (because I didn't want to draw them!), but I like being able to add more definition to their hands, and also gives me a guide to give the ladies nail polish! ;D

I wasn't planning on adding the shadows at first, but after what you said, I'm glad I did! ^__^

Thank you so much!  I always go through tons of rough sketches before settling on a pose and this one involved a lot of refining before I settled on it.  I'm really happy with that hand!  I still need to practice them, but I feel like I'm becoming more comfortable with them.

Thank you!  I had to hold my hand up like that while working on the tighter sketches to get it to look right. xD  I have such spindly fingers so I have to sort of "fatten them up" so they don't look quite so spidery!

Haha!  I kind of want to make a mini comic with that happening now!  Or her "Have a Nice Day" shirt lol

Thanks!  I like putting limits on my superpowered characters so they're not some all-powerful godlike being. xP  A powerful kid would probably be worse than an adult with limitless powers though... >__>

PFT XDD Do it! ...also poor Trenton has a bloody nose. ;3;

That helps give them depth. ;3; I love when there's a good balance between strength and flaws. ....which is why I don't like Superman. 83...he's...too super. XD;

LadyPep In reply to Tigryph [2018-07-04 17:22:11 +0000 UTC]

One of these days I need to sit in front of a mirror and sketch my hands in different poses; there's only so much you can do when drawing them from behind!

YUS!  Bloody noses are a regular occurrence for Trenton in this AU xP

Okay, so I'm a huge Superman fan and I realize that this is why most people hate his character, but I think it's also depends on how writers portray him.  I think the 70s-80s Superman movies gave us the perception of the character we know today with the ridiculous amount of powers, most of which aren't in the comics!  I'd recommend checking out 'Superman: Birthright' by Mark Waid for a more down-to-earth version of the character; the flaws/weaknesses in that graphic novel are more psychological, but of course there's Kryptonite too (and it's really well drawn ) xP  Also 'Superman: Earth One' J. Michael Straczynski and 'Kingdom Come' by Mark Waid are really good takes on the character!

This is true! XD And...I always get confused about which side a thumb is on. HUGE thing but I have a little bit of trouble with left and right anyway >_>;;;

Poor man XD

It's all good XD I understand why Superman is the way he is- he represented a lot at a time when we needed a heroic figure to look up to. I've heard good versions of it >>; but they made him so OP in some cases- like...flying into the sun and reversing time. XD

...Though I admit I'm more into Marvel. :Hangs head:

LadyPep In reply to Tigryph [2018-08-03 03:05:15 +0000 UTC]

Trust me, I've got loads of early human drawings with wonky hands!  One trick I learned is if the hands are held out, face the thumbs in, and if they're palms up, face them out from the body.

Yeahhh, it's hard to find a good Superman story!  I'm still waiting for a good movie adaption because all the ones I've seen so far are pretty distant from his character (Man of Steel was just EW--Superman is supposed to be the fun one, save all the scowling and grittiness for Batman! lol).  Haha!  I like how HISHE uses that 70s movie Superman for their Super Cafe skits! xD

I tried to get into Marvel when I started reading comics, but I leaned more towards DC since I grew up on their animated shows.  I just feel at home with them!  I still find it hard to read Marvel stuff, even more so now because Disney is advertising it everywhere and I'm getting a little burnt out on the mainstream superhero genre ;__;

Tigryph In reply to LadyPep [2018-08-18 05:35:39 +0000 UTC]

:nodnod: XD I have to do that a lot before I start doing hands. I'll pull out a mirror or sit and stare stupidly at my own hands. c_x I'm a little dyslexic (I have to do the "L" fingers trick when driving to remember which side is left XDDD THANKS GPS) so I have to catch myself a lot. >>;

Ohmygosh I love HISHE XDD The banter is perfect. ...and emo spider man moment had me in stitches. XD

Yeaaah...I'm very, very picky with Marvel. I like Thor but it's hit or miss- I tend to lean towards the Tales of Asgard because it's more based on lore than...sjw nonsense. Of course they ruined that recently and now Thor's a girl so I've been leaning towards webcomics from folks I know more. XDD At least I won't lay on the ground questioning life choices after a few chapters.

I still have old drawings from when I started drawing humans and I accidentally put the thumbs on the wrong side!  The pictures look okay, but you can tell there's something really off (it's not as bad as the time I gave a lady six fingers tho! XD)

Self-absorbed Batman is my fave. XD  I liked all their solutions to how to defeat Thanos--cutting his gauntlet off with Dr. Strange's portals honestly made the most sense!!

Oh yeah, that was a weird decision on their part. >_<  I feel like within the past ten years their comics haven gotten really pc...  I read so many webcomics that I have one to read for every day of the week!  It's an addiction! lol  Have you checked out Space Boy??

Oh man yes XDD Groot and Batman arguing. >>;;;; "I am Groot." "I'M BATMAN"

Yeah ><;;; and the politics are taking priority over character development, good story, and....everything else. What they're doing to Captain Amercia is horrible. c_x; :sigh:

It sort of turns her into a human time bomb; it's harder for her to control large amounts so if she's around electronics they'll start going crazy/shorting out.  Add in that she's an emotional twelve year old and things might start exploding if she gets mad, scared, or panicked with too much power stored up!
