Description More Doctor Who! I'm sure you're all dismayed.

Fifth Doctor and Turlough crash some planet's amusement parks. Something explosion-related will be happening in that sky soon, supposed to be fun and wacky but will inevitably go horribly wrong, because... because the Doctor's there, I guess. Then Turlough can complain about it. It'll be fabulous.

I have no idea what I was thinking doing this, just that it was all I did, and all I wanted to do, for several hours.

Oh my goodness gracious, this picture makes me smile so much! They just look so...right! The details are spot on, the colors and the blackness in the background just give you this sense of 'loud and fun' and just by looking at the Doctor and Turlough, you can practically feel their characterization. Wonderful, wonderful job!!

Lovely image! I'm actually sitting in a hotel in New Orleans right at this very minute. I'll just pretend that the Doctor and Turlough were not at an amusement park, but were out gathering beads on the street this beautiful summer evening.

Okay, this makes me squee unseemly for several reasons. Firstly simply because it's Five/Turlough, and you've managed to capture both of them so well. You can practically see the wheels in Turlough's head turning as he comes up with uncomplimentary things to say about the catastrophe he KNOWS is going to happen.

The thing is, there's a Big Finish Audio production with Five and Turlough in it where, at the end, after the crisis has been averted , Five takes Turlough to the local equivalent of a Fun Fair and wins a stuffed toy for him. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the story, but the scene where the Doctor wins it and gives it to Turlough is absolutely adorable, with the Doctor being all "Well, I don't really have any need for this,' and Turlough initially being all huffy and accusing the Doctor of treating him like a child, then admitting that nobody's ever done anything like this for him before, and the Doctor is absurdly pleased.

I wish I could remember the name (if I were at home, I'd have it, but I'm typing this at a friend's house), because it's a wonderful moment, and the first thing I thought when I saw your picture was "That's the Fun Fair where Five won Turlough the stuffed toy!"

They're so pretty <3 I'm working my self trough the classics, and is currently on the very boring first doctor, so I'm afraid fifth's wonderfulness is still far ahead of me >< But this makes me wanna work harder to get there <3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyyatexel In reply to Nimius [2010-02-18 19:48:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I'm sort of watching it out of order, which I like to think the Doctor would approve of anyway. I've seen only part of an episode with the First Doctor, one pretty damn good one with the Second, one fantastically boring one of the Fourth and then two or three good ones of him that led into Five. Working my way through Six now, though it took me like a week to be okay with doing it, and then I'm planning on circling back around and hitting up Four and Two before watching Seven.

I hope it is worth it for you! I love Five, he and Ten are my favorites, but I think I love him for what he only got the occasional chance to be. The writers got a little complacent with him, I think, so he really only starts to shine as the Doctor during his last season. But Turlough is fantastic. More people should love Turlough.

Ah, I sorta thought of watching it out of order, but you know, my master-plan behind it all is to be skilled enough to be able to draw fan comics staring the doctor, and you know, then I want to follow his life in the same way as him, sorta XD But it's hard to get my hands of all the episodes, so, I'll just... do my best XD

It's pity if he wasn't able to live out his full potential >< But I'm still looking forward to him, because, four is a general favourite, and so, he seems to have overshadowed the glory of fifth... I think XD

Unnecessarily long answer back at you

ladyyatexel In reply to Nimius [2010-02-18 20:40:50 +0000 UTC]

I'm definitely shooting for some kind of giant head of knowledge as well - though whether that is just for purposes of drawing or for obsession I don't know. But yeah, some episodes are elusive, so you just have to do what you can. Good luck! I'm sure you'll enjoy it, no matter how it pans out.

That's totally true about four overshadowing him. I think Five sort of got hit with a lot of what Eleven is getting - that everyone loved his predecessor so much that he's not being given a proper chance. And actually, I think Five did that to Six a bit, too. It makes me sad really, and I'm kind of making an effort to love them all - they're all the Doctor, after all!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nimius In reply to ladyyatexel [2010-02-18 20:46:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I want it for the sake of obsession too XD All I can say so far is that the episodes form the 60's are tremendously boring =__= But I'll get through them and be proud of it, yeah XD

I think that's like, a general problem, because everyone is so conservative >< Part of the charm with Doctor Who is that every Doctor is new, but still the same, right? I'm so tired of all the obsessive ten-fans >< poor, eleven, he seems adorable : x Personally I'm most fond of eight though, I think, except he got so little screen time... but you know, just as you, I try to love them all equally ^^ <3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyyatexel In reply to Nimius [2010-02-18 20:54:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh, jeez, I know! And it's not just the 60's, unfortunately. People our age are used to much faster action and more personal drama with the characters when we watch television, so even into the early 80's the episodes can get sort of snore-worthy. Even with some of Four's episodes, they're filmed them in such a way that you just want to go to sleep until it gets interesting again - people would run from one side of the space station to the other and the camera would show THE ENTIRE RUN, so nothing happened for lots of that episode but running.

I know! Poor Eleven, the guy was on screen for like 15 seconds! And poor Eight! His movie was utterly horrible, but you could tell he was a fantastic Doctor under all that awful writing. He was sweet and kind of wacky and I was immensely fond of him. I'm glad he got to go and do audios and stuff at least.

Aww, I'm so glad to run into someone else who wants to love the whole lot of him! That's so nice!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nimius In reply to ladyyatexel [2010-02-18 21:40:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, in the erliest episodes, nothing happened for the WHOLE episode =__= The adventures are in, like four parts of half an hour each, and they contain as much action together as the eleventh's fifteen seconds XD Man it's lame =_= I usually draw at the same time, you know, to have something to do xD

Well, yes, eight's movie was very boring =__= Except the fact that I was amused by the Master being a puddle of goo XD But he was totally adorable and I wish he had stayed around for a bit longer >< I wonder if he was in the time war... poor fella T_T

Isn't it now! In the flaming heat of ten-fans doing anything to promote their love for him and getting ready to commit suicide the moment eleventh's first episode airs, you really learn to appreciate someone who likes them all XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ladyyatexel In reply to Nimius [2010-02-18 21:55:01 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah don't expect that format to go away any time soon. It stays there through the 80s. I think the show really suffered from it, in the long run because they had to have a cliffhanger every 20 minutes, which then meant that they then had to get everyone into trouble and then out of trouble, and then address the plot that got them there in the first place. There's an episode with Five and the CYBERMEN of all things, and I slept through part of it. Cybermen should not be boring, but the format really killed it.

Ha ha, I can't remember being bored by Eight's movie because I was too busy laughing at the writing. I was quite entertained, but only because it was so terrible. I think it's generally accepted that Eight was the Doctor that had to do the Time War and that just breaks my heart. That poor guy... no wonder he turned into Nine the angst bucket.

Well, awesome. I'm glad you exist!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nimius In reply to ladyyatexel [2010-02-18 22:03:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah, well, I suppose I'll get used to it sooner or later XD And right now, I'd be HAPPY if they had a cliffhanger every twenty minutes, since that'd make something HAPPEN. But yeah, I get your point >< It's about finding the jewels in the dust ^^

It was terrible XD I can barely remember it, because I was waiting for someone to upload the second half of the Christmas episode this year onto internet so that I could watch it, and I'm a HUGE fan of Simm!Master, so, you know, eight's movie was just a diversion >< Still remember him being adorable, though XD And poor, poor eight to go to the time war, he seemed sorta fragile T__T

I appreciate your existence as well ^^

I just realized . . . the yellow button has a Dalek on it! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH! -falls off chair laughing-

Oh, dear, where was I? Oh yeah, this pic is beautiful, I love all your Turlough/Five stuff. (Doesn't it look like he's getting a little comfy with Five here? *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink* and all that.) The colours are FANTASTIC in all the splash and pizass, as every one else has said, and make me unbearably happy.

Of course, some explosion will happen to ruin their fun, that's just how life with the Doctor is and Turlough will be bitchy, because he actually has to DO SOMETHING apart from using the "skills" he learned in school on the unassuming Doctor as he had planned.

ladyyatexel In reply to Amphitritie [2010-02-17 20:00:42 +0000 UTC]

The Doctor's button has a Dalek and Turlough's has a Cyberman. I got all excited with the buttons and wrote things on them and made them all detailed and then realized that the drop from 300dpi to 72dpi was going to render the little stuff invisible. BUT IT IS THERE.

Turlough is definitely meant to look pretty comfy there, I'm so glad you said that. I think even for people who don't slash them, it's nice to see the Doctor being really close friends with his companions. I... totally slash them, but I think the close friends thing is very important anyway.

I imagine Turlough actually getting a chance to do anything to do the Doctor would be very sitcom: the wacky neighbors/The Master would always bust in at the exact moment of the attempt, or the power would go out, or the over timer would go off, or a moon would collide with the TARDIS...etc. And then when it was all done, The Doctor would be all, "Right, so what we were saying before?" and Turlough would be angry and bitchy and "Nevermind," and then cue the laughtrack and the credits and we do it all again next week.
