Ah, the sexual politics that seldom gets mentioned! Great work!

I think what I was thinking when I wrote my comment two years ago is that men tend to be valued not so much as human beings than as human doings. We tend to find worth in men only insofar as they are able to provide resources and protection to women and children. We harp on about objectification of women as sex objects, yet the objectification of men as walking wallets and unpaid bodyguards remains an invisible issue. (Not to mention that men, too, are objectified as sex objects, but we don't demonize female sexuality the way we do male sexuality. We don't hear any rhetoric about the "famle gaze".) A man who relaxes with the newspaper isn't at that moment producing wealth, protecting women, or flattening his abs; hence, he falls short of our expectations of him as a "human doing".

When you used the term sexual politics, I thought more along the lines of the things the husband has to say or do for sex.. and I didn't see how this directly had to do with that. But now I can definitely see that, good point. I very much agree with the term "human doings".

We don't hear any rhetoric about the "female gaze". Sorry about the typo.

In marriage, you often just have to accept the flaws of one another. This comic is amusing.

Hahaha! The fact that he's innocently reading the paper really sells it.
