Thanks. I totally fucked the exposure up on this one. I blame thinking my internal 40+ year old light meter still worked, and it had til shortly before this roll.

The title reminds me of an APC song...which makes me like this shot even more!

It's from a song I was listening to when I edited it. That's cool that you'd notice that it was APC.

This is so perfect the way it is. Knowing how you made it, all by hand, adds a certain charm to it and makes it even more intense and atmospheric. It's full of something I can't quite name, it's almost not a photograph anymore, more like a sight of a spirit.

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to oblakorez [2011-01-15 03:53:57 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, I wish I could say that I did it all by hand. I did shoot it on film and developed it myself, but I scanned the neg and edited it on the computer. Two out of three isn't that bad. I could do a print like this.

Thanks.

The boogeymen are comin.
Although I heard Lullaby when reading this title.
I want to hang this one on my wall, including it's title written somewhere and of course the artists signature.

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to irrationalrationale [2011-01-13 18:53:40 +0000 UTC]

And I want to print it, in the darkroom of course. An inkjet print would look ok if printed on the right paper, but something about this one screams, Print me on real photo paper with the chemicals and all dammit!

irrationalrationale In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2011-01-13 19:21:59 +0000 UTC]

You have a darkroom? Can I send cost of material and shipping and get this sent back? :-p [I cant remember if I've said this in another note but I'm feeling exceptionally crazy today. Although that tends to also be when I have the best ideas]

O I wish. And I would love to make you a 'one-off' signed and all print, numbered 1 of 1.

I have all of the equipment, and good equipment at that, all filling up my closet, but no room for me. I could pull everything out except my darkroom equipment and set up, and I've done that before, but my closet is so small that I can't stand up or move with that stuff in there. I have to sit Indian-style and spin to turn around. I had it set up for a while, but things they found their way in.
My closet is 6x2 feet(there is a shelf 5 feet up and that's why I can't stand up.) Yep. My room is slightly larger than 10x10 feet. Living with my parents is literally cramping my style.

Oh cruel sweet ideas that cannot be actualized.
Do you miss your darkroom? Seems like something that would be important to you.
Ha, living with my grandparents cramps my style, but not literally. I'm lucky enough to be here in this big house which my mother recently moved out of, so I've got a couple rooms and a bathroom to myself.

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to irrationalrationale [2011-01-15 04:35:33 +0000 UTC]

I miss my darkroom, I miss it very much thank you. Sometimes I pull out the lens plate, with lens mounted, off of my enlarger and play with it *sigh* stopping the lens down and opening it up, just playing with the aperture, and sometimes I pull out my timer and play with that. *sad face*

Must be nice, to have a place of your own.

I could move out, if I had a little help. Namely a gf to split the bills with.

Wah wah wah, que the micro violin.

irrationalrationale In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2011-01-15 05:33:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh I think it's terrible that you don't get to have your darkroom set up. Throw all that stuff from your closet onto your bedroom floor and set it back up, tiny or not! [I realize that's a ridiculous thing to say to you, but, possibly also tempting?]
It is nice to have my own little corner of the house, but of course like the average human I just want more. [My grandparents tend to stress me out.]
Bills are ridiculous. I barely make enough from my job to pay for mine, vegan food is expensive.
We all need to play those micro violins once in a while.

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to irrationalrationale [2011-01-15 06:05:28 +0000 UTC]

Tempting, yes, but probable, no. You have no idea how much I think about ways to set that up. If there were a reasonable way to do it, it would have been done by now.

irrationalrationale In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2011-01-16 17:30:26 +0000 UTC]

All the same, I couldn't resist the suggestion. I have a hard time accepting creative limitations for people I consider talented.

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to irrationalrationale [2011-01-16 22:05:26 +0000 UTC]

I could put my bed on the back porch, move the rest of the junk in my closet out into my room, and sleep on the floor, then I should have enough room. [written in sarcastica]
It's not just a matter of space, I need containers for the chemicals and a shelf system for my trays. But I am slacking in my creativity, I could do this. It would just take a bit of compromise.
O you tempt the desperate.

irrationalrationale In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2011-01-17 21:14:38 +0000 UTC]

Why not sleep on the porch? Other than rain, it might feel nice.
Compromise is painful, but can also taste sweet.

You just don't give up.
Dammit, I'll see what I can do.

The biggest thing in there is the box for my power mac, which won't fit under my bed; and the rubbermaid container with all my importants.

Heres to reviving talent! And let me know how it goes!

Thanks. The negative was extremely flat, so I thought I would give it an "old timey" look, just to play around with. I took another shot of this same scene and it came out pretty much perfect, so it lacks character. This one I like.

Inkstainedpaws In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2011-01-14 02:32:55 +0000 UTC]

You know, though I stand by my earlier statement, I can see the 'old timey' look... and that does make the picture. I'll look around for that other shot or two just to see, but- you're welcome darling!

I do too.
In this shot, when I was shooting it, a gust of wind blew exactly when I pressed the shutter. I found and copied a quote someone here on deviant had in their signature:

"If you would know strength and patience, welcome the company of trees." ~Hal Borland.

I kinda like it.

This is amazing, but... I kinda think the back ground blends too much with everything else... Just kinda feel it'd be a little more powerful if the sky was a shade lighter? Maybe darker?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to Inkstainedpaws [2011-01-13 18:29:05 +0000 UTC]

The sky was mostly overcast and so the lighting was full but flat, so the sky here is actually just clouds. I suppose I could have used a red filter to darken the sky a bit. I haven't been using my filters lately, I feel like I can get pretty much the same effect in post with curves in the separate channels, but I see what you are saying. I have another shot that I took just after or before this one that came out much better. This negative was almost transparent, it was so flat (underexposed) so I thought I would play with it a bit.
Thanks for the critique.
