Had fun with this one~!New outfit! New gun design! New everything!
Now that my mojo is back and flowing, I'll get back to commissions.

Finally I'm off work so I can critique this, cuz this definitely stood out in a very good way in my inbox. I do like to provide both good aspects and aspects that need a little tuning when I do these, but I've been itching to do a critique for quite some time. So I'm going to divide this up a bit amongst the categories:
Vision: Starting off: there are very very few sonic FC's that really impress me, as innovation in design and stunning yet simple design choice that works is very hard to find lately (like I can honestly think of 3 or 4 characters that nail their designs). Lance is one of them, from the color scheme to having the absolute coolest boots ive seen on a sonic character, period. The actual character is well designed in his body details, not being overly cluttered but adding a very good level of sophistication with concise and well thought out accessories such as the simple cape and the gun, along with the arm bandages. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a lance fan at this point.
That said, I do think the vision of this image was along the lines of 'let's make something postery, but not much beyond that. Nothing is wrong with that at all, as it's a very good way to show off the aesthetic nature of a character. However it's not too innovative, but that's not bad. (cuz the execution is marvelous)
Originality, same deal. Fantastic character design, but the 'idea' behind the piece is still the pin-up poster situation. Not bad by any extent, just not terribly unique.
OK, technique-wise, this is phenomenal. The light reflections off the ground allow the viewer to get the hint that the floor is reflective in some nature. The purple violet edgelighting adds substantial environmental depth because now theres a sense of not only a primary light source, but an ambient sharper source. It leads the eye around in a fantastic manner and gives a very good triad palette. The gun and the smoke definitely add a great focal piece to this as well off the darker blues and really fill out the canvas. Hell, even your signature makes this look like a poster!
Only thing I would work on is that there seems to be a bit of looseness with the shading on the head and hair. This in contrast with the thicker lines on the ears and such makes it a tad hard to see whats going on, and maybe some of the purple edge lighting on the contours of the fur would sharpen this up and add the visual fidelity to really get this puppy going wild. However, you should be freaking proud of this.
Impact-related, I think the composition of this, which on a poster project such as this, would normally be pretty bland, but you got this image chock full of great personality and vivid deep hues. It isnt meant to have a deeper meaning behind the piece, but that's ok. This is how we 'show off designs' and oh boy did you do that well. I hope someone in the industry sees this, as this is a great portfolio piece. You've got insane potential, kid. Let's see how far it can go.

Can I just say, that this made my day? I come home from work to an inbox full of faves and new watchers, and among them this beautiful critique. Really, this was such a surprise!
First off, I'd like to thank you for a legit and in depth critique that is so hard to come by now-a-days. It really means a lot to me knowing that you of all people see my character as such a great character. I mean, 3-4? And Lance is one of them? Wow, that's really, for a lack of a better word, uplifting.
This picture was just a happy accident, and me trying out new things as well as practicing things I already know. I pulled an all nighter to finish this puppy, so few mistakes are to be expected, but I gotta say, I am VERY proud of it. This is definitely going into my portfolio, and is currently by far my favorite piece. Not to brag, but by the rate I've improved since I started here on DA, I know I just gotta keep doing what I do, and I'll get better and better. This pic shows it.
Lance is my pride and joy, and to see him as such a success astonishes me. I hope I go far, man. All the support and praise is all very motivational, and I'm thankful for it all.
Again, thank you much DanSyron. You always been sorta an idol to me, so excuse me for being a little starstruck when I first saw the critique XD I'm still new at digital art, and I still have so much more to learn, I'm just glad I got this far so fast. There's nowhere else to go from here but up

lol don't worry about it. I know good critiques are a rare thing and it's very disheartening, especially when so much passion goes into so much work lately.

Exactly. I wish there was more artists willing to give legit critiques. It can really help a learning artist, well learn and better their art so they can become great artists.

Oooo~ I see you have finally finished it! >:3 Totally diggin' the shading style and the highlights you added onto the character. Gives off an interesting feel to the picture. And of course the hand gun looks dope as ever X)

Man have I told you how much I love Lance? Cuz yeah I just love lance. This dude has such swag, like I can't even properly convey how much swag, dudes off the charts. His design looks bad-a no joke. The shoes the cape, the everything. The detail on the gun is fantastic, and the sizzle from the fired bullet adds a bit of mystery; who did he just shoot dundundun :0 Your proportions are very pleasing to the eyes and really just ;0; And can I say that the coloring is just fantastic? The lights and shadows were very well executed, everything looks so dimensional.

Oh, and I almost flipped my shit when I saw that DANSYRON critiqued this! You are soooo lucky! He's been an idol of mine since forever, and you are one lucky puppy to get a legit critique from someone as artistically amazing as he.Β

I like the way his shoes light up the ground, though I find it odd that they have no zippers. Overall a good piece that fits right in with the rest of your work. Good job bro!
