This is my entry for the 's Parody Movie Poster contest (www.deviantart.com/journal/Con… ).

I recently saw Austenland (original poster here: nyoobserver.files.wordpress.co… ) for the first time and thought that the parallel with Ariel's experience worked very well for a parody: the chance to step into a fictional/historic world vs the chance to live in the human world in an effort to live out a long-held dream and hopefully find true love along the way. I also see Ursula as the kind of Mrs. Wattlesbrook character, the mean/snooty gatekeeper to this new world experience.

The original poster didn't have a tagline, but I thought of this one and I had to put it in. Obvious things: The seashell/heart swap on the bag, Eric's palace swapped for the Austenland estate. I thought about putting Ariel in her blue "humanland" dress, but since the original had Jane in her modern clothes instead of her Austen gowns, I chose to have her in mermaid form instead.

Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out. I don't think I've draw Ariel since I was a kid, so this was fun. Especially her hair (and it's kind of hard to see, but she has a fork twisted in it).

Drawn in pencil, scanned, cleaned up and colored in Photoshop.
