I chose the jeweler from the market scene in Aladdin (who I decided to name Hasuf) (screencap: i0.wp.com/www.caps.media/199/2… ) and decided to throw in the two peasant children that Aladdin gives bread to (that I named Samza and Bodi) (i0.wp.com/www.caps.media/199/2… ). The kids are adorable and I'd love to see their personalities more fleshed out. I always enjoyed the jeweler/merchant's appearance; I guess the way he says his "pretty necklace for a pretty lady" line is just amusing. Plus I like jewelry, so... it works. Then as I was working on this I realized that making him the main character actually worked extremely well, considering in the original story there is a second genie who resides in a ring.
Story wise, I think Hasuf stumbles across a seemingly worthless ring in his normal buying and selling. The two children hang around his booth (maybe he takes pity on them and hires them to polish jewelry). He snatches the ring from the boy to show him how to properly polish it and they are all astonished when a genie appears. From that point they have a series of adventures and mishaps that ends with the kids finding an unlikely family in the jeweler. I flopped back and forth between making the genie male or female, but decided to go with a female (named Rezeela) because it was different and made sense that the ring genies would be different than the lamp genies. I also toyed with "Golden" for the title to be on trend, but decided this was a little more fun.
