Description So there hasn't been much art from me lately, is that so?
It appears to me like I should be fixing that.

As a matter of fact, I've been working on several things, but they have been somewhat bigger projects and ones I don't want to be rushing at that. Add a little artless period that is bound to happen from time to time, and before I know it's November. Damn, and I thought I'd have advanced my plans or even completed some of them back in July. ANYWAY. I feel like drawing more once again now and I have plenty of ideas, so stuff will be popping up once again. Including some things that have stayed in my WIP department for a little too long. I feel completion of things that have been left behind is a good way to boost my motivation for new works and feel that I move forward. Which has been important lately.
BUT. None of that is relevant to this drawing. Actually maybe only the last part kinda is, because the idea for this drawing.... is more than a year old now. Never got to it until now, but it's never too late. Besides, a friend of mine has a birthday today and this portrait is the gift. You know, I have grown to dislike the mandatory gift-giving thing in is usual form. In most cases it's a rather pointless ritual that doesn't really contribute to anything but buying more stuff that isn't necessarily needed. Something I despise because.... well, it should be obvious why. But a personal artwork is something else. It is much more meaningful and often times shows much more care. So when I can, this is my preferred way to give a gift.

But enough rambling. Let's get to the substantial part.

I have never mentioned this sweetheart before. So.... meet Andras. As the name may suuuubtly suggest, he is my Hellson (because I am his Hellfather.... seen as I wouldn't be his "godfather".... nevermind, thanks for inventing this word for me, Sangue, I love it). The story? Years ago a dear friend of mine from the university - whose birthday it is today - dreamt of having a dog, and she had in mind a breed that I never had heard of before.... but Hell, am I glad I did hear about it. The breed is called Československý vlčák (i.e. Czechoslovakian Wolfdog) and they, as the name suggests, appear quite close to their wolven ancestors. My friend was in love with the breed and wanted to choose a very special name for her little boy. And since she wanted to give him a Demon name - and, naturally, I am the Demon guy - she consulted me on which Demon name would suit him best.
Actually, as a matter of fact, she was first thinking about Dagon. But then I told her about Andras and his closeness to canines. She liked the name Andras. It had a vibe and swing she loved. I normally wouldn't do this because I am extremely picky about how Demon names are being used.... but she is a friend and I felt she wanted to give a strong name and a patron to her boy, and I thought - Andras the Demon would like that. Months later I finally met Andras, he was still a young lad, but so much brimming with energy that he wouldn't stand still for a moment. I was charmed. I felt truly happy I got to give this beautiful being a name like that. Not only is he a remarkably beautiful dog, but also so full of life and so bright, so spirited in character. From that day on, I knew I wanted to draw him one day. Now this day finally came, and I'm happy.

Now about the drawing. You may remember my Snow Leopard portrait. Obviously I applied the same technique here - a layer of aethereal hues with color pencils before I add the layers of graphite on top of that. It is finally a suitable technique for those not-quite-gray colors of fur that are rather abundant in Nature. Then I went for full color of everything else as well. I enjoy drawing in color. Besides, the photo that I picked as the main reference had these beautiful shines in the fur from sun backlight, from a really beautiful September day. I used that as inspiration and aimed for the same warm, bright feeling in the drawing. It really suits his personality. In the end.... Hell, I am really happy with the result. I put a lot of care in it and enjoyed drawing it, and I think this always shows. I hope you enjoy it too.

November feature part 1

So tl;dr: this is my Hellson, Andras. A portrait gift for my friend Tedi, whose beloved son he is.
Also, because "wolfdog" doesn't quite say it for me, I prefer to call him Wolfkin. He really has the wild of wolves within.

References are my own photos. Shoo.

Ah, that was sorta my intention - and very much his character, hehe - so I'm glad it worked out. Thank you!

I love this technique. You capture so much.., the contrast between soft and coarse fur, the spark of spirit in his eyes, and the colors..., ah those lovely colors.
Handsome subject, beautiful drawing.  Truly a precious gift.

OML(Oh My Lucifer) this looks so much like a photo the way you've drawn this beautiful WolfDog and the background behind him, it's flawless. Hehe "Hellson" and "Hellfather" I love it!
Haha at first glance at the title I thought "Wolfkin" was a reference to someone you know who was a Wolf Otherkin, before I read the rest of the description heh, I believe that too would suit such a beautiful animal to have a spirit of the pack within him.

Thank you so much, friend! Yeah indeed, I had a photo reference, though I don't go so literally after the reference anymore. To add artistic touch and still achieve that life-likeness is very rewarding :3 Thank you!
