Description In the park of Čakovec, lie the fallen remains of a huge old tree who died many years ago. Might be a little unusual, but since it is so huge and twisted and well preserved after its death, it is now one of the famous sights in the town. Visitors in the town, like me, go to see it, people from around the area even go there to make their wedding photo sessions. Well, I don't care about weddings, obviously, but I care about trees big time, so it was pretty nice for me to go and visit it. The previous day it was sunny and there were kids playing there, but luckily this day it rained so the place was pretty deserted. Ideal for me.

By the way, the tree used to be a locust tree, or Robinia pseudoacacia, also wrongly known as "the old acacia". 'Cause the locust tree is not true acacia.
I'm not sure, but I think I remember someone telling me it died from a lightning bolt. It was a long time ago.

Such a beautiful tree though. I'm sure it was very pretty when alive but even after death, it preserves its' past glory. Looks like it was already pretty old when it died. Sad but beautiful.
Still, it's kinda odd that people just decided to leave it there. It's nice that they did but it's still weird, especially since it lays in a public space and doesn't serve a humanly purpose (ex: a bridge of sorts)
Oh well, nevertheless, thanks to the fellow Croatians for leaving this beauty for our visual enjoyment and rest of the Nature!

Oh yeah, it must have been very old. I've seen quite old locusts and they are FAR not as big. No idea how old it must have been....
But yeah, it's unusual for people to keep it. Probably because it's laid on the ground, so it cannot fall any further and flatten someone. And perhaps also because it was a very old tree. Maybe it was famous while alive, something like a landmark for the town and thus they decided to leave it. I don't really know.
