“The end was coming. She knew, the way a woman knows. And in that same way, she knew a beginning was coming as well. Here, in the sand blown to ripples and stained by the breath of the dead, she lay herself down and gave to the world a child.” -copyright Halfwest 2002-03

This is an illustration, half of a story my best friend wrote, and half of my own interpretation of her tale. The two more or less upright figures are sea nymphs - the one in front is a sprite (she of the bendy legs), and the other is a mermaid (couldn't find a way to put the fin in). I'm going to put in a background eventually, and it'll be interesting, because this is happening at the end of the world. The pale-haired sea nymph is giving her strength to the woman in labor, because the child to be born is the only one who can save the world from falling into nothingness... or something.
