I think turned out pretty neat. I like the detail of the scales, and the head is quite interesting.

Um, wow. But yeah, I have no idea what's going on with that hind leg or how to fix it. xD

What's up with people hating on frills >_>; because of all the haters, the artist is discontinuing them. How would you feel if you put lots of time and effort into something, but as a result get tons of 'I don't like it' responses?

It didn't make me angry xD I'm just saying because they are a lot of people who keep insulting it and complaining to the artist. >_>

You're right about the back leg, not about the drawing aspect of it, but about the anatomical position. If she's laying down her rump would either be parallel with her front or else down from her front, unless she was sitting uncomfortably on some weird incline. The foreleg looks far to skinny as well. Lol ANOREXIC! But your shading is not shitty doll, tis quite illuminous akshully. <3

The only thing I can think of is that her rump isn't actually on the ground - it's kinda hovering, which is a bit awkward.
But excellent shading, and I really like what you did with the front legs, c:

Ouch, hovering? Damn.
The thought was actually that she was supposed to have a bit of a belly, but evidently I didn't convey that all too well...
Thankyou for the crit, it's really helpful, I'll keep it in mind. ;3

It's hard to make that look right when there are wings in the way. Just arch te back a tad more and it will show that better. c:

I still sorry for taking such a crap picture. :< The dragon is awesome though... I like that it's somewhat cartoon-y. X) Probably fits DC too, though I don't know much about that.
My only critique is... Where does the mouth end? XD *sees the line continue almost to the back of her head*

I Wasn't talking about you as a person or as an artist Lyth =\ I was merely saying that I wished the frills were so pretty like this. Dove's piece has some things that are more accentuated then the sprites. To me, its the exagerated thin muzzle coupled with the large frills and the thin neck.
Many people have opinions about artwork. I've had things said about me behind my back to, but have let it go because everyone has the right to think what they think. Lyth, other people here commented about them, why get upset with me? =\ You know I don't say mean things about people behind their back.
I didn't mean for it to come across that way at all. I disliked it when things were said about my golds back in the Ascendance thread, and wouldn't wish that on anyone. =\
If you'd like to talk more about this, please note me. I don't want there to be any hurt feelings about this. <3

Is too, a little bit, but I rather like the idea of them having a stance a little like a more mobile, predatory hadrosaur. :3
And aww, thankyou~

It'd be nice to see some species related art "studies" of your dragons =o You could make a collection/book of them with a couple of colored pages...
and hmm...it would be kinda neat to see them in that stance ^^

~That's what I'm hoping to do!
All I need though, is to get some good art paper and some different pacer leads...my current ones smudge like hell when I don't want. :<
I'm gonna do every single dragon eventually...XB

So pretty <3 I love Dragons. Do you think you could give me any tips on how to draw scales to fit muscles and curvature? :3

Laughing-Dove In reply to Whisper-the-Night [2010-01-21 12:41:36 +0000 UTC]
Certainly!
For one, don't look just as scales, look at feathers. They tend to flex around more, but are great for watching how they slide over each other and bunch and stretch. :3
