how do i change my arrow keys to wasd keys, so that when I want to go up, down, left or right, I just use the WASD keys?

Sorry, but that's not possible so far as I know, within the program itself. If you want to assign a new function to the keys in general, you need to read PART 2, as noted in my text below the tutorial. However the arrow keys are not no the list of things you can assign to those keys, which are all actions from the menus. I can't actually think of any other editor like SAI that DOES allow to do this. In general when they have a keyboard shortcut assignment, you can usually reassign to menu or tool options, not functional keys like arrows and Home or Escape.

But I don't know which version of Windows you have. You could reassign those keys from outside SAI. For example, if you read Map Any Key to Any Key on Windows 10, 8, 7, or Vista the page explains how to remap ANY key as any OTHER key. But this wouldn't just affect SAI, it's be EVERYTHING that you use the keyboard for. That's a fairly clumsy workaround for this. but there may be a keyboard reassignment utility out there which accepts command line arguments. If that's the case, you could run a batch file that runs the utility to reassign those keys, then run SAI, and after that run the utility again to reassign the defaults (otherwise you'll have issues trying to type words using those letters!

Back in late 70s when I owned a TRS-80 clone called a "System 80" (it was distributed in Australia by Dick Smith Electronics), that didn't come with any arrow keys, even though the TRS-80 did! I took it into a computer shop and they hard-wired a set in it, which worked just fine. Those were the days, but franklyI like a tad more sophistication.

UPDATE:
I found another utility that might be better, called AutoHotkey . This can read scripts and there's even a page on their forums called Toggle WASD keys to Arrow keys help.

is it possibleΒ  toΒ  assign the scroll up/down to numbers 3 and 4 instead?? I've been looking in keyboard shortcuts and I can't find anything that says scroll up or down, which is odd because obviously it does allow a lot of other shortcutsΒ  for zooming in, out, etc.

GO READ PART 2, as I ask above. If it's not on the list there, you can't do it.

I'm having major problems with the rotate option on sai. For some reason its no longer f*ckin rotating a small draw I'm doing like a foot. I can't get it to rotate sh*t and its pissing me off and preventing me from fixing my draw.

LauraSeabrook In reply to XThe-Purple-GlitchX [2017-11-05 21:00:36 +0000 UTC]

?? So ALT+SPACE no longer works? So far as I know, there's no way of changing that, so it's not a shortcut problem. You should ask about this on the Paint Tool SAI in English forum.

Any stabilizer shortcuts?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LauraSeabrook In reply to MrFireFang [2017-08-09 08:20:33 +0000 UTC]

No. If there were it'd be accessible using the technique in Part2, however there's no entry for Stabilizers in the Others > Keyboard Shortcuts menu item. The items in the View Bar that do have shortcuts, have them because those options also appear on a menu. It might be worth suggesting to the developer that shortcuts be added for this, an "Increase Stabilising, and "Decrease Stabilising".

You've saved me so much work. ^^

Anyway to custom set the right click in Sai ? when i right click it always uses the eye drop color select too :/ Even if i have my pen custom set in the driver, it still dose eye drop. Ugh.

LauraSeabrook In reply to AdvanceRun [2016-12-20 22:29:11 +0000 UTC]

There's no option to reset the right click that I know. You might want to suggest that as a feature to the maker.

I looked at it yes but I didn't really see anything about using the Number Pad for tool short cut keys

LauraSeabrook In reply to gen-os [2016-07-02 22:44:19 +0000 UTC]

So you haven't checked the OTHERS > KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS list to see if the keypad keys are listed there? Ypou need to play around with what a tutorial says to see how it works.

LauraSeabrook In reply to gen-os [2016-07-05 02:57:20 +0000 UTC]

Sigh. You're asking this question in the WRONG TUTORIAL, because this one deals with the tools that appear in the GUI, not general Keyboard shortcuts. Please go to Part 2 where I have added an update to answer to this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Primpri In reply to LauraSeabrook [2016-08-07 10:18:45 +0000 UTC]

Your other tutorial is of no help to what this person is asking, it's not possible to set Numpad keys to Tools.

Eg. "Eraser" is not listed in the Keyboard Shortcuts window so the only way to assign it is through what your Part 1 tutorial explains - but you can't assign most keys to these (only A-Z, 0-9 & a few special characters) because they identify by a single ascii character.

I've tried manually setting the key in the config file but the app assumes it as an error and only uses the first character which would be N. The only way to use Numpad keys for such tools would be to have a 3rd party app bind them to other keys.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LauraSeabrook In reply to Primpri [2016-08-10 08:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, may have misunderstood the question. I didn't have SAI installed on any of my PCs at the time and was using a tablet to respond (with a screenshot from a friend's PC). Have reinstalled SAI to have another look.

Tools are listed in Part 2, but they're things like flipping and rotating the canvas. Brushes are not. So, for buttons (tools & brushes), use the alphabet and numbers, for everything else, use the OTHERS > KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS (which is the only place you find num keys).Β Β
