If we refer to the Greek mythology , Poseidon is the father of Triton. Thus the god of seas is other than the Grandfather of Ariel ( And Great-Grandfather of Melody x'D ). He lives on the Olympus mount with the other gods and his brother who is normally Zeus ( and Hadès). But maybe that sometimes he wants to see whom becomes his son who decided to reign over Atlantica and his oceans. As well as his small princesses. Later we do not know why Triton in chooses not to be any more " a god " than it has no aura but I would say that it was to remain with Athena, love of its life, as Hercule. Hercule who is moreover, quite logically, the big cousin of Ariel :3 It is not beautiful the family?
