Description I just got my first set of Windsor & Newton Series 7 brushes from Blick art supply and immediately had to take them for a test ride. I haven't seriously tried to ink in quite awhile, so I'm a bit rusty, and I was using a lap board since I had moved my drawing table to my new studio and I was at home when I inked this, but those brushes actually made my rusty hack lines look really, really cool.

Hope you enjoy!

Very awesome, indeed.
I hear the brushes are good.

I want to know, how much do they cost and where do you find them? Can't find out anywhere.

The absolute BEST place to get them is Blick Art supplies online: [link]

Most brushes are around 50% off there, and there are usually discounts for ordering a certain $ amount of stuff, so you can really get some great brushes for a little bit of money (compared to what you'd pay in an art store).

Yeah, it takes crazy practice to get smooth lines. And most people ink by pulling the brush towards them, while pros do it pushing the brush away from them, following the natural pivot of the arm at the elbow. And inking the lines pretty fast (even more practice) because if you go slow, the line gets all wavy and shaky.

Thanks - I really tried to make it as clean as I could, and fought the urge to rush through it at the end.

I wish I had more time to just ink. Been pulled away to do too many other things.

Looks good man! Nice detail and linework! Nice use of the subtle shadows under each feather too. Great to see you so motivated and inspired these days man. I remember not too far back you had pretty much given up art altogether. I had a feeling it wouldnt stick, but you're on fire now!

Yeah, living in NY really brought me down. I had been having some really good success in L.A. but in NY it was so different. In L.A. if's cool if you work for a VG or movie company, in NY you're cool if you're a miserable, starving artist. Now that I'm back in CO I've joined up with some people and we've put together a design studio for doing movies, and I have my own department, so yeah, I'm feeling pretty good again. Working at Merrill Lynch in NY to pay the bills just sucked the soul right our of me.

Yeah, when I passed 30 and still was struggling to make it in art, it got pretty depressing. But taking time away made me realize it's what I wanted to do.

I'm having such a great time doing all this. I'll have some stuff to post from the movie soon, but I have to wait until they put it up on their web site first. You know how that goes. It's a small but fast growing production house. We are all creative types that want to make our own movies, but have to take on other jobs to bring in money, so we're doing some low-budget movies of various styles, and funneling the profits into the business to start doing our movies. It doesn't pay a lot right now, just enough to get me by, but I'm sitting here in my studio creating art all day, instead of doing something lame like sitting at a desk at Merrill Lynch listening to rich people cry because all their money is going away. Ahhhh... such a nice change. Also, I'm here on the ground floor, helping to build the business, so even though money is tight, I'm on the fast track to seeing my artwork and ideas used in movies, and having more control of the look and style and design than most people who are doing work for a big studio with lots of non-creative a-holes in suits cutting out all the cool stuff because they don't want to take a risk on doing anything original that "fans might not understand."

I get to learn a lot about a lot of new things, like prop making, editing, camera work, and I'll be learning Maya and Z-Brush soon, which will be sweet. I've always wanted to take my characters and creatures into the 3D world.

It's so nice to finally be doing this.

How are things on your end?

Zak.

Yeah thats my whole world now ZBrush and Maya but its awesome to know so dive into that shit and dont look back, its worth it!

Doing good here, Los Angeles is annoying but I love working in film. Finished working on Wolverine which is gonna blow but Im working on Percy Jackson and the Olympians right now and its pretty badass!

Star Trek comes out soon and I did a ton of shit on that one, so I cant wait. Theres a space jump sequence and a sequence on this snowy planet with thes ecreatures that myself and a couple other guys pretty much directed those sequences so Im really looking forward to seeing the finished product on the big screen.

Other than that just working on getting my own project together with a riend of mine. It's an animated series. Done alot of concept art for it and now just trying to find the free time to get the characters modeled and rigged (ie. Zbrush and Maya) and then I have boared out the triler which Ill have to animate the shots for but thats the easy part, its getting all the assets built that takes forever.....But we need to ge that done before we can pitch it, so Im hoping before the end of the year I can get something together.
