I definitely agree with the description, this is why I don't watch Mystery Incorporate, I stick with What's New Scooby-Doo.

Eh, blame Derrick J. Wyatt for the character change. I feel he really didn't give their personalities much justice in Mystery Inc, were everybody felt one-dimensional about their previous quirks--Fred and Traps, Daphne's feelings for Fred, some unprecedented "love: triangle between Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby--and it didn't play out well in my opinion.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I couldn't help but cringe whenever those forced personalities came out. It really didn't work.
And now, who knows what their personalities will be like in this new series. (I already dislike the designs for them)

Hmm, I can't necessarily give any two-cents on the designs just because their art style from the time of Mystery Inc. really bothered me. It was too blocky and bland for my tastes, but maybe they could give a more modern twist on the aesthetics like they did back in "What's New Scooby Doo?"
I mean, there are a ton of small things that deviate from their likeness that you and me probably notice. Heck, I'm not even a fan of Shaggy's current voice Actor (Matthew Lillard), and he's probably just in that role because he was also the character's actor from the first pair of live-action movies way back in the day.

Yeah, "WNSD" was like the modern version of "SDWAY" at that time. And it was pretty decent. New clothes, modern music chase scenes, the works.
And after I got past the character designs in Mystery Incorporated, I thought the storyline was pretty interesting once you got half way, but that's it.
And if i was to pick a Shaggy, I would pick Scott Innes because aside from Casey Kasem I practically grew up hearing his imitation of Shaggy.

Yep it modernized the look and feel of the brand, without compromising what made it special. And don't get me wrong, Mystery Inc. sounded like it had some intriguing story elements going on of course. Sometimes I just felt their "character development" came across as too forced, along with other tidbits like Crystal Cove as their hometown, or even the confusing time period they set it in. Sure, you could argue it's the turn of the decade from the 60's into the 70's with all the fashion, but then there's also modern technology like cell phones, so...yeah.
Hmm, I'm pretty sure who I know who you're talking about, considering they wanted a different voice for Shaggy during the late 90's...well, that is, because Casey Kasem was of old age even back then, and well...he's with the stars right now, if you've ever heard his famous quote. But yeah, if I recall correctly Scott Ines did a pretty memorable performance.

Oh, it wasn't because of that. I read that Casey Kasem didnt want to play Shaggy in the late 90's was because the creators didn't want to pull off the whole "Shaggy being a vegetarian" thing. Even though they mentioned Shaggy's vegetarian lifestyle briefly in promos and such, it just didn't work either.
Then by the early 2000's, they kicked Scott Innes to the curb (just for the shows and movies) and brought back Mr. Kasem until 2009. But he also played Shaggy's dad in Mystery Inc.

Hearing you two talk, I just want to give my two cents:
While MI (Mystery Incorporated) biggest problem was that it tried too hard to be big and epic.
But if you want to make Scooby Doo big and epic, I think it's possible. I would love to see a Scooby Doo cartoon that can both get the kids and adults invested and make one that be taken seriously the right way. Check out my project and see what you think: fastsonicous.deviantart.com/ga…

Heh, I remember the mention of that in a Boomerang short. It's be interesting to see that play out in at least one show at least, if they can get everybody else down better than they used to. But that's real dedication for him to stick to that character to the end like that. Reminds me of the way that Peter Cullen reprised the role of Optimus Prime in the Transformers movies, since he hadn't played that character since the 80's cartoon.
By the way, what did you think of "Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue?" I know it wasn't exactly the traditional SD premise, but I hadn't seen it either.

I only seen like 1 or 2 episodes of that series. It was kinda hard to watch considering Scott Menville did Shaggy's voice (I'm really into voice actors, sorry lol) .
The animation was kinda weird and it was just Shaggy and Scooby. I think Fred and the girls only appeared once or twice. I didn't really pay too much attention to that series

I think maybe 13 Ghosts was probably meant to be a spin off since it was only 13 episodes and that it had Scooby, Shaggy, Scrappy, and Daphne like the previous incarnation. It was meant to be short.
As for Get A Clue, I think it was just another attempt for a series since Whats New Scooby Doo ended
