Description
I know i've been uploading a lot of things that start with the cryptic "HoH"
I have a reason... I like the plot of House of Hatters, simply because, nobody has a tragic and angsty story or past (well, a couple do have some slightly sad beginnings, like Lars and Asher... but thats just to add some reality to it) and EVERYone gets a happy ending and NOBODY dies... not even the characters I like! (I have a tendency to kill off my favorite characters)
its basically lighthearted fun, and my characters from other stories get to interact... I honestly think that if Lear had met Olive and Rook her life would be ten times happier because they're better buddies than Knight and Trellai by a long shot... and she starts out as Hemlock's baby, instead of horrible old Septimus, and that's a plus.
++ ROOK TIRELLIUS
Personality: Otherwise known as "Nanny Goat" or "Mother Duck" by family and friends... Rook is called this because of his motherly nature, despite his goofy and awkward personality. He's the mother of the gang of misfits that have dubbed themselves "Book Lovers Enamor Us". if someone needs emotional comfort, a hug, or protection, he's there. Despite his goofy behavior and his slightly girly nature, he has a very good memory, and remembers the entire towns birthdays, and anything that's been told to him. it comes in handy when you're going to be a baker, and you cater of course, but it also keeps him in better touch with his buddies. after all, who else will bring you a free and very intricately decorated cupcake on your birthday?
Appearance: Rook is the tallest of the group, and I mean THE TALLEST. he looms over everyone... but he's a beanpole. he has shot up and sprouted, as it were, but hasn't really grown out. he's very gangly and he isn't in complete control of his limbs *accidentally whacks his mother in the face with his hand* (he is actually really strong though, so don't think he's weak and skinny)
Rook's hair is his mothers, to a T. mahogany red, wavy, and wild. he prefers to call it "Wildly civilized". his mother and aunts tell him to put a comb to his "wildly civilized hair" and attempt to at least look like a proper gentleman. or at least wear a hat!
in his original tale, his eyes are yellow Wych eyes like his daddy... but if the Wych eye trait wasn't dominant, I imagine he'd have his mothers steel grey eyes, so he has blue grey eyes in HoH.
Talents: Rook is a good baker like his dad. but his dad is just the nuts and bolts of baking. Rook is the one who makes all the little marzipan animals and people and decorates the cakes and gingerbread houses with pretty designs... he's best at making girly little cakes, to his dads chagrin (and slight pride... cause they sell well)... he is also good at whittling. give him a knife, a bar of soap, or a piece of wood and he'll make you something with it.. (yes he can make a gun out of a bar of soap thank you).
Side Note: Rook is a bit of a momma's boy... but that doesn't mean he's unable to cut the apron strings, or that he loves his dad any less. it just means his mom is his idol, and he strives to be like her... in personality that is... though he gets depressed if someone says he looks like his dad (I would too.. his dad is an ugly fellow). He and his dad have a sort of playful rivalry, and are always trying to best each other as "the man" of the house. This can manifest in wrestling, tussling, bake offs, insult bantering (Rook respectfully and lovingly refers to his father as "The Old Man" to his face and to the public) and basically anything that pops into their head to compete about.
Rook is a girly boy... not the type who wears womens shoes and applies make-up... he just prefers Women as his company, and in the physical... he gets along with women better because he can relate with them... being the one son among sisters he is also embarrassed by male anatomy, he thinks that Women got the better deal! he's so embarrassed by his own body he can't even take his shirt off with people watching... male, female, or family! the only person who can convince him to let the doctor look at him is Petrish though... (He calls Petrish his "Little Big sister" cause she's older than him, but smaller)
++OLIVE OAKLEY
I have less to say about Olive, so i'm not going to label sections
Otherwise known as "The Proney" which is short for "Accident Prone" because... well, she is! though she's good at getting herself hurt or in danger, she's really good at keeping other people OUT of trouble. it might be because all the bad things just flock to her as a magnet attraction, I really don't know!
Olive isn't really the Leader of the gang... she's just sort of a stand in leader, until someone steps up. though, its possible the Gang has a joint leadership of her, Lars, and Lear.
Olive is a bookworm, and incredibly smart. she can read any book and have it memorized just by reading it once. (useful for standardized tests!) she uses this talent for recitation and acting. she also has a very lovely singing voice. she plays the piano... but not all that well... she's average when it comes to proper instruments...
In her original story.. her eyes are Purple. but for House of Hatters, I made her an albino... I don't know why.. I just thought it would be cool.
Olive is not the prettiest girl, or the most fancy dresser. she's a very practical dresser though, she wears fairly plain, not very flashy clothes. her personality is more of a statement than any clothes would be anyway! she also refuses to do anything with her hair, she just brushes it really. her excuse for not putting it up is "it wouldn't stay up" which is a lie... she just doesn't like messing with it! *waves clips and scrunchies away*
Geniuses are just an odd lot I suppose. her hair is actually a lot nicer looking naturally.. my drawing just made her look like a scarecrow... :T
++LARS FALCOM
he isn't actually known as anything else but Lars... but he is the zookeep of the group.. you will never see him without some little animal he's rescued and is now nursing back to health. there's Freckles and Wheatley, the rabbit babies he rescued after their mother was caught by a dog... there's the Peeper Quartet, the four chicks he and Rook are raising as a joint parentship... there's March, the musk turtle that got run over by a carriage as it was crossing the road... and then there is Lessster, the garter snake he rescued from a farmer who was in the process of cutting the snake with a hoe!
its not odd that he has all these animals... he is planning on going into animal medicine as a profession.
Lars has a very uncomfortable family situation.. so animals are his only friends in life now. he's not very used to people and is socially inept and awkward. he can seem arrogant and aloof with people, but he's really just uncomfortable in others presence and will do anything to get away. he's been hurt too many times to trust people easily.
Rook was his first real real friend (I say real twice because Ashe the maid wouldn't count as a friend, more as a lover). Rook is just friendly like that. he and Lars got along great because they had the love of animals in common. and then they just started sticking like glue. he spends a lot of time at the Tirellius bakery, helping out, staying for dinner. Terish sees him as her fourth child, and Lars sees both Terish and Quint as his family.. and their kids too! he and Rook are actually blood brothers only, Rook wasn't fond of the idea of cutting himself, so they used raspberry jelly from a roll instead.
his eyes are really purple too... but i made them hazel for House of Hatters
++HEATHER OAKLEY
Or, the Muse. she isn't called the Muse, but she is the muse of the group. she is Olive's twin sister, at least, for this story. in originality, she is Lear's friend Zombie, from their original story. but for HoH, she is Heather Oakley, the sister of Olive. and she's happy with that!
but, the muse. she is the muse of the group, because she is the artistically inspired. she can play the piano beautifully, and flawlessly... and she can't sing for love nor money... well.. give her the right note and she'll do alright. but yeah, she can't sing very well. she is very quiet and barely speaks. she sort of has a stammer, but thats more out of nerves than a speech impediment. once she gets going she'll talk normally.
she drinks in the world, and can find musical inspiration in anything, from the flight of a butterfly, to a gaggle of old women gossiping. and she puts it to her piano.
Heather is very unhealthy. she has an eating disorder, that causes her to throw up after eating. so she has to be careful, and usually swallow back before it comes out, if you understand. she's very thin and frail, but she's tougher than she looks.
Heather dreams of being a beautiful and mystical woman, and has an interest in fairies. she loves fairy tales and folk tales, and can make songs for those too. she wants to be a fairy princess, and she dreams of having a prince charming herself one day. she's a dreamer. that is why she's the muse!
so, that's only half! i've got four more coming each one of these... took me about thirty minutes to color on photoshop... longer if i messed up the colors! thats the problem with using different color oppacities... if you mess up you have to start all over!
anyway, the characters and art are (C) ~Lear-is-not-amused
House of Hatters are (C) Lear-is-not-amused and *Sleyf

Aww these are adorable! I love the style of them by the way, they're so cute, and their poses suit their personalities perfectly! I thought you had Rook with red hair before? And I was wondering why Olive had red eyes, she may want to avoid the sun and bright light
I looooooove the style, I really do, it's brilliant, everything is so fluidy fluid and the different line colours are brilliant, so don't think your work is cheap, because it's not!

yeah... i also used reference good, because I am not entirely sure myself to be quite honest
yes... kind of along this line....
dagnabit... >_< copy paste tool won't work...
anyway... look up Odessa by Kvlticon
nah thats okay, the sketches were done with transparent lines right? so you can just say everything is lighter because of that... and your drawings of her are way prettier than mine anyway... meh.
oh, the skin isn't shaded, its just hued so it actually looks like skin... I didn't want to spend too much time since they're doodles so i didn't feel like shading, and skin color hues... are actually uber easy...
the only thing that bugs me is that Rook's head is huge where as the others are proportional... cause he was the first one i sketched... so i was thinking i'd do them all big headed and for some reason everyones heads progressively got tinier and tinier as i drew them :T go figure...
we'll just go with Rook being characteristically retarded so he ends up being retarded looking...

oh i see then
it seems to be what you're best at actually ^^
its a term for saying someone is retarded- i'm sorry, "mentally handicapped" because kids who are mentally challenged would get picked up on this special school bus, that's short... saying "he rides the short bus" is another way of saying he's nuts or not the sharpest tool in the shed

Yesh, I had the abandoned Sandwell one in orange
Thanks! I used to be awful at it, but then it magically struck
Oh I see I see...why do they have a short bus?

Guards, throw that peasant out now
Oh oh I see I see - no no I haven't seen that film
Lol - I never liked Ms Scarlet, although for some reason everyone fights over playing her in the board game. My sister was always her, I always played Colonel Mustard - my mum was Mrs. Peacock - that left my sister who got stuck with Prof. Plum because no one wanted Rev Green or Mrs. White (who looks like a man)

I got mad, I wasn't thinking rationally
Oh I see
Because you should demand to have a longer audience, in a paradoxical way, the audience is far more honourable than the throwing out
well you go to a room, and you say to the person next to you "I would like, Prof Plum, in the Conservatory, with the lead pipe"
They look through their cards and if they have one of those they show you - and you can cross it off your list - thus eventually getting to the conclusion of who the killer is, where they did it, and with what. Once you're satisfied, you can guess - but if you guess and get it wrong, then you can't play anymore, once you guess, that's it.
