May I ask what you used for the main part of the backpack? I'm trying to make a medigun but I'm stuck on what to use

Awesome! Couple questions - 1) how did you attach the tank to the pack? Sintra? Lathed wood? and then 2) how did you connect the hose between the pack and the gun? I keep finding the wrong kind of hose and no connectors. Do you recall what they're called and where you found them? Plumbing supply place?
Thanks!

leaux In reply to BleepingGeek [2012-10-09 17:43:29 +0000 UTC]
The tank is lathed wood, and since the main part of the pack is a hollow box, it is just screwed on from the inside of the pack (through the side). The hose once belonged to a shop-vac, and I mounted a connector for that specific hose to he wooden base of the medipack (which is hard to see in this photo, but the hose just friction-fits over the connector, so it kinda looks like its plugged into nothing). You can probably find shop-vac parts at a hardware store.

Mine is made of wood turned on a lathe, but I could also recommend making it out of craft foam/eva foam. There is a good tutorial for using it here . Foam is quite versatile and you can sand and paint it to a great finish. I didn't know a lot about materials when I made this, but if I made it again today, I would try the foam route.

...This is made of pure epicwin!
I have a question: How do you keep the medipack from drooping? I've been trying to figure it out for ages!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
leaux In reply to Fudoko0114 [2011-06-18 04:08:18 +0000 UTC]
Well, mine has started drooping a bit, but to start with, the back of the harness is Y-shaped and connects to the belt, and it is built on a bent steel framework near the shoulders, with padding underneath. So the pack itself is screwed into a steel plate that hangs off my shoulders. Now the curve of the steel at the shoulders has started bending, and it wants to slide off my back, so I need to add adjustable straps in the front, but haven't done so yet <.<
Hopefully I will before this year's Dragon*con!

Seems a bit extreme for me (the metal plates), I'll have to try it though! Thanks for the help!

The lining I made for it is complete, it's just laying around in Dad's basement somewhere, yet to be affixed to actual inside of medipack... When we make Brittany's Heavy outfit, I'll complete the lunch box, so we can use it to store Sandviches. That's what it was intended to do in the first place.

It's all wood, basically. A wooden box, and then knobs on top, as well as the tank looking part, were all turned on a lathe.
