I'd say start with any likeness, then get into the complex stuff. Doing a face is the easy bit. Analysing the difference between Antonio Banderas and Johnny Vaughn - that's tricky! If you really want a challenge find two people who really look alike and get it to a point where people can tell which one's which. If you need inspiration try Private Eye's Lookalike section. It comes down to the subtle differences at the corners of the mouth, the angles of the brow, the proportions of the face, the corners of the eyes etc. Just doing a face that's similar to your subject isn't what separates the men from the boys! That said, that's a great first attempt...
