Just browsing through for some manga fanart for the late 80's early 90's series of the same name- and WHAM! This is the kind of art that MAKES deviantart so freaking worth my time

It's funny how we come across things sometimes isn't it, sometimes just by pure fluke.

undeniably your best work. The detail and design of the outfit is flawless and extremely professional. I could easily see this being the outfit of the main character of a game such as Genji Dawn of the Samurai or Onimusha.

Oh, and yeah, you obviously noticed that I like Onimusha and the like, they are some of my biggest inspiration for character designs.

Thanks! ^^ I think Kenji was one of my best too, just one of those designs that seemed to work in every way... not that the design process went perfectly smooth though, when sketching the design I never completed it, and just scanned it straight away, this can often be a bad idea, as when you don't have a good enough design to go by you can hit a creative block once you have colored all that was drawn, but, the design just seemed to flow out as I worked on it... and thus Kenji was born. ^^

Kenji was one of those character designs that just worked out perfectly, (sometimes happens) the design went well, and it all flows, his hair and face turned out well too, so he looks the part, I feel heβs a real game character now, heβs ready and waiting for the right person to say βheβs what Iβm needing for such and suchβ. make me rich Kenji!

Well, if you ever do find buisness in being a character designer, I'm just glad I'm one of the few who found them BEFORE they were popular lol. If he's not in a Final Fantasy game, then he would at least be in, oh...lets say Dead or Alive

Do you use refs or is it drawn from imagination?

I use refs for faces, hands and feet.
And I will often look at some clothing folds and textures to get a better Idea.
(wish i could make up realistic faces, but it's just too hard) but I make up the costumes etc.
