Description In the park are the fallow deer, brainwashed by the comfort made by man while they wait for their death by the hunt. They are hypnotised, no longer needing to think of life as wild deer they have become worse than tame.

From the book "Fire Bringer" these deer remind me strongly of Cowslip and his rabbits in "Watership Down" and their strange culture which had developed without the threats of nature.

"Here the crow starves, here the patient stag breeds for the rifle."
T.S. Eliot, "Rannoch, by Glencoe"

I just finished that chapter last night. I knew exactly what was happening right from the introductions of the two stags (can't remember their names) because I've read WSD so many times. Don't tell me what happens next as I'm only up to this part so far. I'm really enjoying this book.

I pity these deer (well the stags are downright stupid) but I mean I just feel so bad for them having to live like this, and I also pity the poor Fallow hind and her fawn that was lost to a fox just because it was a doe.

I always wonder if maybe...if maybe just occasionally one of them can get back their wild nature...In one of my stories with my OC, a young Fallow hind escapes from the park while she is in fawn and when her fawn is stillborn she adopts a orphaned Red deer fawn.

But I do like how the author described these deer (though some could had been in more descript like Fourleaf who is one of my favorites) and there are moments...

Hm, interesting...have you read Bambi? It reminds me of the deer Gobo, who was born in the wild and raised by humans, and...well if you haven't read it I won't give it away. ;3

I haven't read the book but I have the audio tape and am desperately looking for the original novel. I find Gobo a sad but true case of how humans effect animals. Gobo lost his fear of man and that is a great danger that threatens many animals in the wild.
