I can only say that finally being White felt surreal and dream-like.

If you have not seen the film Tekkonkinkreet, you must do so. A whirlwind animated movie depicting a colorful fictitious Treasure Town, its representation of urban decay and a city layered with backhanded business is like nothing else.

The movie centers around Black and White, two street-smart orphans that challenge not only gravity, but the Yakuza and commercial world that threaten to destroy the town they claim as their own.

The dialogue is beautiful. Flawlessly demonstrating concepts of love and loyalty, regret and fear, Tekkonkinkreet's philosophical life lessons on the pain of violence and separation left me breathless. I love movies and literature that leave room for deep thought and analysis, narrowing in on what the work was truly trying to say - and this film was the perfect example.
