Ch. 9
The Black Swan

"The battle's soon?" Melyna asked the White Queen.
"Yes...and it couldn't be a worse time, and the Red Queen knows it..." Queen Reena replied, holding Melyna's hand and leading her to the armory, Mad Hatter following.
"Is it because of the King?" the Hatter suggested.
"King?" Now Melyna was confused.
Queen Reena smiled softly at this, as if looking back on fond memories. "Well, Alice, not too long after you left the first time, a third kingdom popped up. It was under the Rule of the Black King. Well, I and some of my closest peers went to see who it was that tried to rule against our kingdoms. We were soon taken in to meet the Black King Envy, and..." here the Queen smiled again, "...I suppose it was love at first sight, as cheesy as it may sound..." she sighed dreamily.
"Awwww!" Mel cooed. "So cute!"
"Thank you. After that day, we stayed in close contact, and often one of us would visit the other...it was the best of times for both of us. Eventually, he proposed to me, and we made plans to wed, and combine our kingdoms. But the very day before the wedding was to take place..." Here the Queen's smile fell, and a saddened look replaced it.
"The Red queen is known not only for her brutality, but also her jealousy. Apparently she was jealous of Miss Queen Reena here, and add that to the fact that the King's weapon of choice was capable of killing the Pedowocky...well, you can imagine how that would turn out..." the Hatter explained to Melyna.
"She trapped him in his own scythe, and locked him in the catacombs under her castle..." Queen Reena whispered, stopping at the Armory door.
"Oh no..." was all Melyna could say.
"Yup...and that's the only weapon that will truly kill the Pedowocky...so, we're gonna have to go back again..." the Hatter added, as the Queen unlocked the Armory.
"Prepare to duck." the Queen warned, before opening the door.

All three promptly ducked as a mace came flying at them.
"NO ONE ENTERS!!" the March Hare shrieked, getting ready to throw a battle ax.
"Calm yourself, Jackle." Queen Reena ordered, before leading Melyna inside. Melyna stared in wonder at all the various weapons.
"How come you need me? You could kick the Red Queen's ass with all the stuff in here!" Melyna asked, gesturing to all the weapons.
"One could assume that. But I cannot, for it is against a queen's vows to harm another creature, much less a traitor to Wonderland such as the Red Queen...here we are." Queen Reena said, stopping at a suit of armor.
"Wow...is that mine?" Melyna asked.
"Yes...but you'll need the Black Swan before you can put it on." Reena added.
"Black Swan? Is that the scythe?" Melyna asked.
"That it be!" the Hatter said.
"'Yes it is', not "that it be," Jack." Reena corrected sternly. Jack merely rolled his eyes and stuck his tongue out at her, causing Melyna to giggle.
"Now then, if you both are done acting childish, Alice must retrieve the Black Swan..." Reena interrupted.
Melyna nodded, and Jack the Hatter pouted; everyone was too serious...
"How am I gonna get back there without getting caught again?" Melyna asked.
"The same way anything else is done in a story like this; with a plot hole." With that, Queen Reena pulled a rope attached to a wall, and a bell was heard. Soon, a short girl wearing a tunic and a pole ax twice her height tied to her back walked in, and knelt before Queen Reena.
"You called, Queen Lady?" the sprite asked.
"Yes. We need a plot hole to Queen Spectra's castle, as close to the catacombs as possible." Queen Reena explained. Melyna glanced at the new person, as if thinking something.
Hey, do you know a spider named-"
"SPIDER?! WHERE?!" the sprite screamed in terror, glomping onto the Hatter.
"Never mind, you just answered my question..." Melyna stated.
"Okay then, one plot hole to the catacombs, coming right up!" the sprite Speckles chirped, jumping down and rolling up her sleeves.
