I like the cultural commentary (it is Dr. Suess after all) You can sell anything if it's in a bottle (like bottled water). The latest model of tree (those gadgets no one really needs). I took the story as a; the more we try to make our lives better the more we destroy the earth/make our lives worse. Earth destroying movies are pretty big with me, I loved Ferngully as a kid so this one is up my ally.
I like a story better when you get both sides, Once-ler is technically the villain for destroying the trees, but we get enough back story to empathize with him and his motivations. I hate it when the story is like 'this is the villain because they're bad, yup.. that's it.' I want to know more about both sides and decide for myself who is in the wrong, or if it was all unintentional evil.

I totally understand you, and I agree with the "vilan part". In all movies I'd like to understand why the characters is that way. I also think that this movie has a good apology to what is happening in the world lately. And, of course, esthetically the film is very good. Thanks for the awesome answer.
