Great photography, the light in the middle fo the stem bothers me, but I'm not sure how that could of been avoided without losing some of the lighting on the leaf. Nice job.

It's a lovely picture... great detail and the colour is quite captivating.

If you're looking for critiques... the only thing I can say that I think might strengthen it is making the dark parts darker, just to add to the richness of the colour. There are a lot of light areas, but few darker areas to contrast. I don't know... maybe I am talking out my ear here... but it seems a bit more contrast would make this even more striking than it already is.

Thanks You're probably right about the contrast. Being critical myself, I need a longer depth of field to get more detail, as the focal point in the image is unintentionally blurry. Also I'll be underexposing more to avoid the central highlight of the stem being blown. Thanks again for the comments, it all helps improve the process

I'm glad you didn't think I was out to lunch. I do worry about critiques, as I know many of my works could be held up as examples of common problems as well. (The colours on a few pictures are a bit wonky and certainly less than perfect/true to the image.)

I do understand where you are coming from on images like this one. I have done quite a few macros and have had similar problems of depth of field and exposure. I am also trying to work on underexposing slightly for the same reason as you. I got a Nikon digital SLR recently need to figure out the bracketing better, which I think can help.

i'm looking forward to seeing future works in your gallery...

Thanks I just had a look over at your gallery, and there's some really outstanding photos there, especially the dunes.

I re-shot a series of similar arrangements yesterday at f/29, and the slight drop in sharpness was more than made up by the greater depth of field. Unfortunately, that in turn showed up dust and the odd hair on the subject plant - so while the images may be less useable, its another lesson learned in preparing the subject prior to shooting...

Ah, the joys of macro. It is incredibly finicky. (Well, what part of photography is not in some fashion...) But the results can be incredible when it works.

Thanks for adding me to your watch list and your compliments on the gallery! I just need to get a macro for my new camera and we can trade dust and stray hair stories.
