Description PART 1:
An open letter to deviantArtHey, deviantArt staff? Can we talk for a minute?
What are you doing? Like what do you think you're accomplishing if you're not only implementing a new "layout change" that has a ton of technical issues but also inevitably making it the permanent website design for all users? I get that people don't like change, but holy actual shit this "eclipse" layout is a dumpster fire and there's nothing that can make it good. If you guys didn't have the option to use the "classic" layout as of right now, this platform's daily user activity would be at an all time low.
Not one time, in the history of the internet, has a major social media website (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter etc) ever reverted it's layout or UI back to a previous incarnation because of "user base backlash". You know why that is?
They don't care about what their users think or say. It doesn't matter how many people bitch and moan about it, doesn't matter how many people submit feedback forms that specifically ask them to chang
PART 2:
Classic view is in trouble...6 months ago, I posted an open letter to deviantArt. ( seen here) It explained how the Eclipse layout hurts the user base. There were 2 options for the the staff to make in order to not dig their own graves. They were;
1. Cancel all plans for the Eclipse website layout.
2. Always allow users to switch to the classic site view as an option if Eclipse becomes more "well liked".
They refused both choices, as It simply isn’t feasible for us to keep Classic DeviantArt running forever now that Eclipse has been officially released.
This is a complete lie, and a sad one at that. What they can do is have a separate team who know how to manage the classic layout and fix whatever truly breaks.
The management team's claim as to why deviantArt needs to "change" is to attract new users in hopes that "the website won't die". Accounts created less than a year ago are unable to switch their layout to "classic", this is nothing more than artificially inflating the amount of Eclipse

On April 22nd, gave every user a warning of the old layout's doomsday. The "sound of silence movement" erupted around the site in protest, and the movement period began on May 1st through the 3rd.
What will we do now that that period is over?

#noclassicnoart
A simple, straightforward hashtag that can be our next step in protesting the (apo)clipse's arrival.

Ever since the team announced the classic view's departure date, no one from there has said anything regarding the negative criticism.
You could argue that this is good news, because no matter what their words are on the topic; they're pretty bullshit and only denying the truth that it was a bad decision.
This can also be bad news however, as they can be seen as "not caring about the community at all" which in my opinion, is the most likely reason.

In my previous entry, I stated that deviantArt's reason to why the (apo)clipse needed to happen was because "the site was dying, and they needed to attract new users somehow". This goal not surprisingly sank to the ocean floor, and for good reason. The general userbase here never once asked for the site to be redesigned, nor was the "classic" design ever the reason why the site wasn't gaining new popularity.

The other thing I mentioned that it's completely possible to keep classic view running, by building a separate team that knows how to work with this older style of website coding. One of the biggest reasons why classic view is still preferred over (apo)clipse is because of it's use of BBCode (that's how you can customize your profile so easily). If (apo)clipse doesn't bring BBCode into it's system, countless comments, profiles, deviation descriptions etc will break. That's going to be a serious consequence that dA probably didn't even think of when they made the genius idea to omit BBCode from the new format.

The real reason for the site's ultimate decline in recent years is because of the growing toxicity of the general userbase, and there being lack of moderation. Bullying, harassment, stalking, art theft is extremely mishandled by the administrators. Ex; if someone replied to your comment calling you a slur, the staff will just tell you to "ignore it" or to block them, not even giving the abuser a slap on the wrist. Let me explain the policy on "art theft".

According to the deviantArt policy, it is perfectly acceptable to reupload/steal art made by inactive users or even potentially legitimate dead people. This is because reporting art theft can only apply to you if it's your art being stolen. This would be like if firefighters didn't respond to your 911 call because "it's not your house that's on fire".

In the beginning of my fight, I was mocked for my words. They said I have no reason to fight because "I don't have core membership", or that I was "bored". They would write a literal novel about why I was wrong for not wanting classic view to die out, and my views were "deluded". I can't name any of these people because it would be considered "block evasion", but I will say that these people think they're in the right by backseat moderating. The real deviantArt staff won't do anything about them, even sometimes supporting them in the (apo)clipse layout changelogs.

While it's true that many people who dislike the (apo)clipse will continue to stay, this doesn't change the fact that the site's userbase and overall activity will dramatically decrease. This site will end up becoming the "myspace for artists", and will eventually need to be shut down due to lack of user support. The site already killed off the more affordable "1 month core subscription", now only the 3 month and the 12 month subscriptions are there, and they are not cheap by any means. Why would you want to pay for premium features for a site that has corrupt staff and the userbase is mostly made up of toxic, creepy, or otherwise very unpleasant individuals? The "defense team" argue that this site has "40 million" users, but what they can't calculate is how many of those accounts are actually active. The amount of inactive accounts or abandoned accounts that people have moved away from make up the majority of the userbase, that's a fact these so called "defenders" don't want to acknowledge.

On May 20th, 2020, the classic layout will die. When that happens, #noclassicnoart will take effect. How will it you may ask?
Simple, by ceasing all uploads forever. No more uploading new content to this site. Deleting or replacing your current art with a protest-sign can also be effective, it has been going ever since April 22nd.

This is not an act of defeat, it is an act of protest, it's an act of standing up to the staff's cruel decisions. You don't care about our words? Fine then, we don't care about yours either, we don't need a broken down site that isn't optimized for lower-end computers! We don't need a site where most of the art is recolored/stolen drawings, WE DON'T NEED A SITE WHERE PEOPLE DRAW ROUGE THE BAT IN A DIAPER, OR FANART OF LOUD HOUSE CHARACTERS TURNING INTO BABIES.

THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING DEVIANTART
DO NOT TAKE AWAY THE CLASSIC VIEW
OR THIS SITE WILL DIE AN EVEN FASTER DEATH
IT'S NOT A THREAT, IT'S A PROMISE.
