I love that movie but I always was like WTF with that final scene. I knew they wanted you to have sympathy for her but they made her look like a puppy. They should have had her get all monstrous but let Dee's natural eyes show through so we could see the pain and terror and great sorrow in them knowing she was about to die. Would have been much more poignant than ending on an effect that just looked silly. It really took me right out of the movie when this happened.

I know , she looks way too much like a little dog or a baby Chewbacca
i was wondering if the nose/ muzzle was meant to stretch out on that head , as it resembles the stage three of Eddy Quists face
But for some reason they never used it

I don’t think so, just looking at it with my FX critical eye I think that it was designed to be just what it was. Heck I even recall the nose doing little wiggles like a rabbit’s to add to the overall cuteness of it.

yes , the nose sort of pulses like a rabbits
It does have really big pointy ears though , like the other werewolves ,
I only noticed it watching through a few times

they're not easy to spot , even when you know they are there
makes her look a bit less Peckingese dog I suppose

Could be
Rick baker used his pet dog as a guide for the American werewolf
And he did actually copy the colour ,pattern and hairstyle !

Thanks,
got to be the cutest werewolf in a film
It brought me back to a time when I used to paint a few pet portraits for people
