The shine on the skin and eyes give him a really extraterrestrial quality! John Lithgow did a great job in that story. Made me think he was legitimately afraid of flying!

I'm a bit that way

i've had a least one night flight ,in a storm and heavy turbulence and   didn't have to be restrained
but thought I was going to die

Have you seen the original version , with william shatner ?

very similar , but the gremlin is strange to say the least

That's the black and white version right? I have seen it but not for a long time. I recall the 'gremlin' looked more like a caveman had landed on the wing. I've never been flying and I'm happy to keep it that way. You know airplanes lace the food with imodium right? It's so not everyone uses the toilet all at once. Randy explains it better

The original version is pretty good

The gremlin in that one is a bizarre  design,  sort of thick lipped , wearing a  sheep's wool  romper suit!

I've only flown about  six or seven times

it's no fun I can tell you
there's a real feeling of doom

It seemed a very odd design, I think the version they used in the film came out better than the original in my opinion. I know my older brother went flying once a few years ago. Something to do with firefighting He took some nice photos through the window of the clouds that looked very beautiful. But I do think for the most part it would be pretty awful

I suppose gremlins have always been depicted as sort of monkey reptile combos

the B&W  version seemed to be aiming for  a bit of a monkey look , but it was more sheep than anything

just weird

Very weird. The movie version seems instantly inhuman, an almost alien like figure. The original with William Shatner looked mostly like a man, just with a weird face.

I can't get over the weird idea to make him covered in sheep skin

he's already a lot more tubby than you'd expect , and in that rain the last thing he'd want is to get waterlogged

the one in the film is based on a capuchin monkey , they kind of look like that when they are frightened , they grin

The sheep skin does seem a very strange choice, more so in the rain. I imagine it would have been very cold and uncomfortable to work in.
I can see a bit of the capuchin monkey look you mentioned. The movie version reminded me a bit of a porcupine with the odd hair/quills in his body.

the make up artist , who built that  used airbrush air hose for the quills ,

he had his old mum who was about 70 help  put them in  one at a time

unusual to see quilled monsters
the only other one i can think of is Shuna Sassi from Night Breed

But she was more suggestive of a baby bird

I can think of one other quilled monster. The little monsters from Critters. If I recall they fired quills in the first film. But they just looked hairy most of the time.
But as for monster with the look of quills, I can't think of any others. I'd actually forgotten about Shuna Sassi.

I've just realised that the twilight zone black and white gremlin was a weird tribute to Lon Chaney's hunchback !!

It's like a cartoon version of his curly haired make-up

I can definitely see a resemblance between the two. The face and hair make them pretty indistinguishable.
