Brothers! On an adventure! The adventure is not choosing new bedspreads, they are committed to the ones they have. Sure, it's a lot of look, but they can't be afraid of using a bold print in a small space OR following crudely made treasure maps. Or they'll never get the bag of quarters that's buried in the yard! Or was that just me? If you find any quarters in my parents' yard, they're mine.Watercolor & digital.

This is almost exactly what my brother and I did when we were little-although, we didn't have a bunk, a torch or a treasure map, we would still make little worlds and just be like that for AGES. Ah, nostalgia.

I'm glad you're questioning the blurred bg because I'm feeling very insecure about it - but then again I was insecure about the regular one, which is why it's blurred in the first place. The unblurred version was drawing focus, but I just don't know. I'm having something of a painting slump at the moment so I figured I had to finish SOMETHING, anyway!

On the other hand, the flashlight ray is also kind of in keeping with blur.

The bg works, I totally get what you're trying to do, maybe it just needs to be more subtle? On the other hand, you could try to use value to separate fg and bg. Were this somehow an animation, the blur might feel more appropriate, but as a still image... it's just different. Maybe you should experiment blurring more backgrounds? I feel like your illustrations employ pristine shapes and patterns so well, that is just a little less powerful.

I'd actually love to be able to shake off the precision from time to time. I think I need to try some media studies, see if there's something I don't feel like I have to be totally tight with to get a finish.
