I'm back from the dead, more or less...spring semester has started (I had a pretty unsatisfying Wintersession and nothing to show for it, so hooray). And here's my first real finished (?) piece! For Cover to Cover, a concept for a biography of Ben Franklin...critique particularly welcome, as I have time to adjust it before class. Color is twigging me out. I dunno. Anyway! Yes! Alive! Hi!Edit: critiques taken into account. I'm not sure this color is perfect, but I like it way better. Thanks, guys! : )

Believe it or not. It was neither his face nor the description to make me think of Benjamin Franklin. It was his and all her expressions and characters to make me miss Benjamin Franklin in HBO's John Adam in French Court. All looked like what he would did there. Missed that miniseries. And then I started reading description and OMG, It was really him! I was like YES, IT WAS BEN. I KNEW IT! Great art! If you had concern over coloring, I may say it was perfect in style!

Gorgeous tones, beautiful use of texture and I just love the flowing script against the pale background, wonderful work and thank you so much for a historical piece! Mr. Franklin looks probably the best he has ever been right here, lovely attention and especially details to their elaborate wigs and clothing!

You're back! And this is exactly the sort of olde tymie hilarity I've come to expect from you, young lady.
If your really want critique, I'd take another swipe at the color. I'd unify each dress a little bit more, since right now all the design elements of each dress seem to separate and get tangled.
I feel like Ben should pop, so I'd dress him in warmer colors and cool down the ladies. Then Ben and the red wine would come forward (especially if the background is cool, too) and it would be all Founding Forefather, Wine, and also a pile of ladies.
You could also make his eyebrows more lecherous, but that's up to you. I love those ladies!

The concept is freaking great.
Is there anyway to maybe tone down the red of the wine or bring it into other places in the piece you want to draw the eye? Cause right now, it's like BLAM! Red wine! And then I don't know where to go...

this is being ultra nitpicky but i don't know how i feel about the intense purple in the bottom left hand corner.. it seems to make the lines there a touch too red, and pop a little more than the rest of the image and i don't think that was your intention.. of course, it is the underside of the lady's skirt so that really just depends on your tastes if you know what i mean
that aside, i love your colour palette
alsooo empty space in upper left? extend the twirly vine/halo thing perhaps? dunno. just saying.
