Description A saber-tooth cat of the genus Dinofelis resting on a tree branch in an African rain forest. It took me about 15 hours to create the cat and its tree in Artrage and PS cs6. The background is adapted from a photo.Well! I'm not good at making backgrounds!
I hope you like it and feel free to write your critiques and comments about it.

Was dinofelis and the rest of metailurini machairodonts or felines? I've seen both stated but I've also never seen either one as generally accepted.

As far as I know Dinofelis still belongs to tribe Metailurini of the subfamilyΒ Machairodontinae of family Felidae. But in some recent sources they assign Metailurini to the subfamily felinae. In both cases,Metailurines are true cats.

How are you creating the fur texture?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Leogon In reply to thefbfs [2015-08-20 06:03:29 +0000 UTC]

By painting it in separate layers.in this one I've made 4 layers, but in my more recent works sometimes I work on up to 12 layers to achieve the best result.

Actually dinofelis would be so similar to modern jaguars, both of the body props and habitat. But you are right the patterns I've created somehow looks like the clouded leopards.

Unfortunately, nobody knows how the cat's fur pattern was in real life! I used some realities of modern living cats mixed with my imagination.I am so glad you like it.

thanks dude!what's your advice for bringing out the cat of stiffness?would be glad to know your idea.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ljsraksha In reply to Leogon [2013-08-14 10:53:47 +0000 UTC]

Your welcome. Hmm, maybe you can make the dangling leg hang at more of an angle so it seems the branch is round instead ofΒ  flat. Also make your lines altogether softer and looser and maybe make the cat looking at something instead of just straight ahead, or have it with it's head resting on the branch. Hope this helped.
