Description Elasmotherium is an extinct genus of giant rhinoceros endemic to Eurasia during the Late Pliocene through the Pleistocene, documented from 2.6 Ma to as late as 50,000 years ago, possibly later, in the Late Pleistocene, an approximate span of slightly less than 2.6 million years.

Here is my concept of Elasmotherium sibricum, sniffing the cold air of frozen steppe.

I can only imagine how early humans reacted to seeing such a impressive beast on the steppes on Siberia, nearly 9 feet tall, with a 7,5 foot horn and covered in shaggy hair.

Well. I was shocked, because, I went to an expo with statues of real sized Megafauna, I saw the Elasmotherium and my reaction was: "No way! I can not believe it! There is no way a rhino could be this big! " But then again, considering that are huge Rhinos like the Indricotherium.

Perhaps they were a nightmare for them! at least for neanderthals.

Probably not,in spite of things this was still a herbivore that the humans would know its not a threat as long as they don't disturb it.

But a raged herbivore of this size is not less dangerous than a carnivore.

You say that it survived until later in the Late Pleistocene. I'm a bit puzzled about some of these extinction dates. What's the latest for Elasmotherium?

It's documented as late as 50000 years ago.

By far one of the best reconstructions I've seen of the beast. The fur is incredibly well textured, as is the horn.
