Description
Vanellope stood in the the throne room of the candy castle, looking around her at the bright pink walls. She gazed at the ceilings that went so high she couldn't even see the top. "Salmon my tush," she muttered under her breath. She made her way to the throne, dragging the frilly pink princess dress behind her. She threw it over the arm of the throne carelessly and sat down on the other, since it was custom made to fit King Candy's kart after all.

She kicked the poofy skirt of the dress as she swung her feet. She dug around in them and found the tiara she'd stuck in there. She placed it on her head and got down to look at herself in the reflection on the throne.

"Vanellope?" a voice called out behind her.

She whirled around and snatched the tiara off her head, hiding it behind her back. Way down at the other end of the vast room, Rancis was sticking his head in the door.

"Oh, I'm sorry," he said bashfully as he scurried inside. "I meant: Your Highness?" He bowed so low his nose almost touched the floor.

Vanellope rolled her eyes. "Stand up, Rancis," she commanded, waving dismissively. "You don't have to do all that. I'm still me."

Rancis blushed and stood back up. He remained just inside the door, shuffling his feet nervously.

Rolling her eyes again, Vanellope called, "Well come on." She tossed the crown on top of the dress and hauled herself back up on the throne.

Rancis jumped and ran towards his new-old ruler. "So, um, Vanellope…" he began.

"What's up?" she asked cheerfully.

"I- um, I," he blushed, "I wanted to come and a-apologize for the way I – uh – the way I treated you before. And – um – yeah."

Vanellope blushed as well and turned her head away from Rancis to hide it. "It's not your fault," she said quietly. "Turbo changed the code to make you do it."

"No," Rancis insisted. "No, he made me forget about you, not treat you like that. That was all me, and I shouldn't have done it." He took a few steps up the ramp to the throne.

Vanellope blushed as pink as the room they were in. She tried to push her bangs out of her face, but the weight of the candy stuck in them kept pushing the hair back down. She persisted in her futile attempts though.

"Nellie, stop it," Rancis said. He got right up in front of her and snatched the candy that was causing the problem, pulling Vanellope's hair in the process.

"Yeowch!" Vanellope cried, startled. She pulled back so suddenly that she toppled off the arm of the throne. She crashed to the floor and whacked her head. "Oooow," she moaned, not bothering to get up.

Rancis gasped and scrambled to her side. "Vanellope!" he gasped. "Gosh, I'm so sorry! Are you alright?" He helped her to sit up and she rubbed her head.

"What did you call me?" she asked hesitantly.

He looked confused. "Vanellope. Gees, you don't have amnesia do you?"

She waved his concern off. "No, no, I'm fine. Before that, though. What did you call me?"

It seemed to dawn on Rancis what he'd said. "Nellie. I called you Nellie." They were both silent and then he pulled away from her. "I'm such an idiot!" he screamed. "I mean, I can't do that! You're the princess for mod's sake!"

Vanellope pulled herself to her feet. "President, actually," she corrected. "And that means you still should have helped me up. But I actually don't mind the nickname. It's sort of," she paused to come up with the right word, "cute."

Rancis froze mid rant. "You – you think it's cute?"

Vanellope shrugged, "Well, yeah. I mean, 'President Vanellope von Schweets' is sort of a mouthful. Just don't tell anyone else that, okay?"

Smiling, Rancis replied, "Can do… Nellie."
