Description
Those of you who follow me on Facebook will know that I was feeling kind of crap yesterday because I wasn't able to get anything productive done. Taking on the advice I got, I decided to take things a little at a time and not be so hard on myself. I ended up on a nostalgia trip as I went though my folders to look through my older MS Paint artwork. It felt good to look through them all and laugh at my past inexperience. Something else that's also been making me feel really happy lately is the game Cuphead. A game done in the style of 1930s Disney and Fliescher cartoons. Right down to the traditional, hand-drawn animation cells and watercolour backgrounds. If you haven't seen anything of it yet... YOU SHOULD!! It is a cacophony off great humour, lively and beautiful animation and art and so many amazing character designs that make my inner artist scream with delight!!!
At first I was just going to draw some random sketches of the different bosses from the game. Then suddenly, I got this idea in my head. Going back to the idea of trying to draw something and make me happy; I remembered just how much I loved drawing King Candy from Wreck-it Ralph. Drawing him was always a delight and I still love his design. I thought it would be perfect to have a crossover of him meeting the Cuphead villain, Baroness Von Bon Bon. I recon he’d find her a gal worth game-jumping for. In a way, it's kind of fitting, since the way KC is drawn always reminded me of these types of cartoons. Compared to the other Sugar Rush residents who all seem chibi/anime-inspired.
I was quite pleased with myself for getting all this done in my sketchbook and filling a page. It was nice to finally not let myself worry about everything for once and just draw at my leisure. Even if I'm still out of practice when it comes to traditional inking.
It’s funny how in such a short space of time, we get two games that take inspiration from 1930s animation and feature satanic themes. Going on Cuphead and Bendy & the Ink Machine. Either way, I love them both! ^^

Sort of, I think there are some things I'd love to see explored. I'm very keen on the idea of there being an original, good King Candy that was Vanellope's father before Turbo killed him and took his place. But I don't know if they'll look into that. Say for that idea, I'm not sure it really needs a sequel, since the first film was such a great story well told.

Well said. I kind of agree but more in terms of not wanting them to ruin the first one. Disney doesn't have a great track record with sequels (Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aladin, etc. But I have faith! Especially since it's been rumored that they'll meet other versions of themselves online! I'm hoping that they meet another Turbo

Thank you! It was so much fun to draw all the confectionary details. ^^ It is such a lush setting, one of many in the game. Especially since its painted and animated using the same methods of old school animation.

Yup. They delayed the game a fair amount because they really wanted to get an accurate repreesntaton of the 30s hand-drawn animation. Realising they couldn't recreate it digitally. So, they decided to do it the old fashioned way. ^^
