It's hidden because he's using gnome2-globalmenu.

It hides the menu bars from the windows and shows them in the panel at the top, like on a Mac

Btw, nice shot! I think some shadow for your panel would make it look even better, though.

You can set it in compiz.. I can't check right now, since I'm running KDE at the moment and therefore have no need for compiz, but it should be under Effects/Window Decoration. There should be a setting "Shadow Windows", and in the box it probably says something along the lines of "!(class=Gnome-panel)" or "!(type=dock)"

Remove that, and you have a shadow under your gnome-panel.

As I said, can't say for sure, since I'm running neither compiz nor ubuntu, but take a look. Otherwise, Giyf

Hello, elementary nautilus is not yet available for Ubuntu 10.04
In the picture I'm only hiding Location bar
